As leaders, we want to build learning systems & learning organisations. That means we need to role model being continuous learners. It can be hard to make space for personal learning when our roles are so full on. Here are five ways to keep learning, even when we feel depleted:
1) Challenge our beliefs about our capacity to learn;
2) Start with topics that solve urgent problems;
3) Don’t limit ourselves to learning via formal programmes;
4) Make an emotional connection to learning - in line with what matters to us rather than the expectations of others;
5) Work with our brains, not against them - evidence-based approaches that increase retention.

One of my favourite illustrators of organisational life is @voinonen. Here she is highlighting wicked problems (messes). These are complex issues involving many interdependent factors, making them hard to define & understand fully & with no clear solution. Most of the issues we deal with in health & care fit into this category. That's why, as leaders of change, we need to take an experimenter's mindset, creating small test of change, because it is difficult to predict what cause & effect will be. Thank you ever so much, @SkyNews, for giving our CEO, @Annemarieward, the platform yesterday to expose the staggering failures and utter lack of accountability in Scotland's addiction sector. We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to highlight the @scotgov's relentless denial and the scathing reality that so many are forced to endure. Your coverage is a much-needed spotlight on a crisis that can no longer be ignored. #DrugDeaths #ScotlandsShame #OorBill
@cresigno@gaswomancometh The culture of ableism in the NHS that stigmatises staff for taking time out for mental health is toxic. It has to change or the NHS will die. 💀
@gaswomancometh@BalaApharaoh Sorry to hear the NHS is losing another highly skilled worker. Well done for taking such a brave decision. You might enjoy this book, which is soothing to read when you need to heal burnout.
We are looking forward to seeing both shows on August 17th - making people think about new ways to save the NHS, while spreading some joy and laughter, is worth sharing. 🥰😍🥰
First @edfringe review from my auntie Angela. Thank you. I don’t know if we saved the NHS but we hopefully made people think as well as laugh. And they were certainly very keen to learn how to pleasure themselves afterwards in a safe and sustainable way.

“Look at what they make you give”… our colleague Dr Jonathan Shaw aka Joff paid the ultimate price for his NHS service. Can teaching medical staff about restorative practices help us to identify our needs before we get to this point? #justrestoreit
"Many interventions focus on extrinsic factors. Restorative practice gives you the opportunity to make yourself your own improvement project." @SueholdenNHS@NHSE_WTE@HolyFamily_RSHE
@Sinbad51979702@SophyRidgeSky Misogyny is what is going on @john ellard. Intimate partner violence is about unhealthy relationships and we are surrounded by them. We need to teach everyone how to relate; we need to teach pro-social skills in schools, hospitals, every workplace etc to stop the bile.
@Tzenh Misogyny is the scourge of every UK institution. Until women are respected as leaders and are allowed to lead in a female way, the inequalities in our world will never be addressed. Thanks to @jessphillips for leading the charge and speaking truth to power 🔥
@anna_annabav We were discussing the benefits of the human library concept in our restorative book club last night. If only we showed as much interest in other people’s unwritten stories, we would understand so much more and build our relationships. #relationalpractice
