@peterboghossian The chart in the article would be more informative if it were not scaled to racial composition of the US, but instead had the same total area under the curve.
@McClellanOsc That's not the reason at all. In the early moments of the universe space itself was expanding. Light wasn't traveling faster, space was expanding.
@Handre By objective criteria Calvin Coolidge is the best. Inflation down, national debt way down, prosperity & economic growth up. No other comes close.
Marxist economics was refuted in his own lifetime when the labor theory of value was shown to be false by Stanley Jevons in The Theory of Political Economy (1871), Karl Menger in Principles of Economics (1871), and Leon Walras, Elements of Pure Economics (1874), which laid the foundation for general equilibrium theory. These were all published a decade before Marx died. Marx was writing about the "immiseration" of the working class during the biggest explosion in living standards in history. Marxism is quite literally a collection of nonsensical claims. Nothing about it wasn't already refuted by the time he put his pen down.
@Die_mend_hands@IterIntellectus The cost of the paper in a book itβs pennies. Is that the fair price from the authorβs point of view? Or any fair minded personβs?
@Die_mend_hands@IterIntellectus The marginal cost of producing a pill, no matter what it is, is always trivial. The science behind producing it and the process of getting it tested and approved is in the billions of dollars.
@swombat Anyone who says AI is conscious is showing off that they donβt know what consciousness is, since we have yet to measure or define it in living things.
@Rothmus For this to be meaningful, it should include transfers and subsidies too. Does the 3% paid by the bottom half include various forms of welfare?
@ArthurMacwaters Is there massive double counting in the top chart? The 11+ line seems to include all incomes above 11, including the top. On so on up the scale.
@suzylebo@ConceptualJames Quite so. The Jewish culture of literacy and focused study should be celebrated and emulated. instead we see rampant envy and vituperation. Most people seem to react to the success of others with envy and resentment rather than admiration.
