IBMYP Mathematcs Learning Area Coorinator. Love innovative practices and teaching through inquiry and concepts.
IBMYP Sciences and chemistry teacher too!
Mathematics friends! I am setting up room as a 'maths lab'. It will have lots of vertical non-permanent surfaces in the form of whiteboards. What else do you think a maths lab needs?? TIA
@Math_m_Addicts 'The students can't do this, they can't do that, they can't do the assessment task'
Then tell me what they can do and let's build on knowledge! What have we been teaching?!
Just loving teaching division with base ten blocks. But I wonder what is best - dividing into 3 groups like a dealer OR dividing by gathering groups of 3? Examples in pics. Thoughts?
Making classroom counters using these amazing hole punchers! My counters will be recyclable and reduce the plastic used in my mathematics classroom! So excited to make my classroom more enviro-friendly and model this mindset to Ss

With thanks to @whisto_maths for setting up the shared drive and @MrHand__ for the template.
How you close a lesson is important. It can be a reflection on learning, a summary of learning, or a metacognitive look on the learners themselves. Consider varying how you use exit tickets. #corechat
This tool aligns learning tools & strategies to phases of inquiry to ensure engagements are purposeful depending on the phase of learning. Hyperlinks to editable templates & PZ routines to help students and teachers plan. #ibpyp#pypconnected#pypchat https://t.co/GPbeFFVqUg
So much available for novice teachers to facilitate Ss thinking around addition, subtraction and multiplication. Not so much for division. Anyone able to share some resources/strategies to dvlp deep conceptual thinking around division K-12? #mathschat

@AMSIschools Hi, Roslyn from Darwin. We have a large dinosaur here in the NT. My favorite activity is to ask Ss to model moving it from it's location to the museum in town - we estimate the height, use trig and maps, research truck beds, consider chopping it up. So much thinking #MathsTalk
@AMSIschools A2 Discuss the maths. Share thinking. Put the focus on the pathway to a solution rather than getting the right answer. Chat about estimates and accuracy and always remember that quality trumps quantity in terms of how many problems you have answered. #MathsTalk
I love how @jamestanton takes down five of the most common objections to using the area model to conceptually teach multiplication. Check out his 9 minute video where he helps make sense of the madness: https://t.co/jyb0krpaC2 #iteachmath#MTBoS
Reading @mathsjem book and saw the partial differences method of subtraction; I also came across it in Mark McCourt's book. I think it's amazing, really truly great. Why is it not used more widely? I often find myself working hard to avoid saying 'you can't sub. 9 from 4...'
