long before sri lanka even fucking existed tamil eelam existed independently until it was colonized by the portuguese and later folded into the british crown colony. calling it nonexistent is like saying palestine doesn’t exist just because it’s under occupation

sri lanka being a “sovereign nation” doesn’t change the fact that it’s a settler-colonial state, built on the systematic oppression, displacement, and extermination of the tamil people. sovereignty means nothing when it’s used as a shield for genocide. the sri lankan state used “unity” as a justification to bomb hospitals, massacre civilians, run rape camps, and disappear tens of thousands of tamils.

pope francis visiting madhu in 2015 wasn’t an endorsement of the sri lankan state or a rejection of tamil eelam. madhu shrine is sacred to many tamils too, and the pope calling for peace doesn’t mean we forget the genocide. peace without justice is just forced silence by the victor.

accusing tamils of “weaponizing faith and suffering” is disgusting. you want to talk about suffering? tell that to the mothers of the disappeared. to the survivors of the no-fire zone bombings. to the raped and tortured women in sri lankan military camps. telling them to build “bridges” with their killers is nonsensical

Tamil Eelam is the northeastern part of the island and the traditional homeland of the Tamils and Tamil-speaking people. Eelam Tamils have lived as a distinct nation and constitute themselves as such. Self-determination, which is an inalienable right of any nation, is not separatism, nor is it an expression of hatred. Normalizing a racist and genocidal country like Sri Lanka is what constitutes hatred and doing so is deeply ignorant.

There is no such place as “Tamil Eelam.” Sri Lanka remains one sovereign nation divided only by those who thrive on hate and falsehoods. Pope Francis visited Sri Lanka in 2015 and held mass in Madhu, a revered site for many Sri Lankan Catholics, not a separatist state. Twisting his message of peace to fuel separatist agendas is both dishonest and dangerous.

Stop weaponizing faith and suffering Thusiyan, if you truly cared about justice, you’d be building bridges not burning them!!
