Day 6 of the Induction Training Programme for Newly Recruited Scientists (Batch III) of the Central Silk Board focused on intensive field exposure to Muga commercial seed production and technology demonstration activities in the Muga and Eri sectors.
🔹 Visit to MESSO MSSPC, Kaliabari The trainees received comprehensive exposure to large-scale Muga seed production systems, with emphasis on scientific grainage operations and quality seed management. • Practical exposure to Muga grainage operations • Hands-on experience in cocoon selection, pairing, oviposition, and SOP during grainage • Detailed understanding of the DFL production process, seed health management, and disease prevention protocols • Best practices in commercial seed production
🔹 Visit to CSB RSRS, Boko The trainees also visited CSB RSRS, Boko, where they were familiarized with ongoing research, extension, and technology demonstration activities. The visit provided valuable insights into the role of RSRS in strengthening region-specific technologies, farmer outreach, and effective research–field integration.
The field visits were mentored by Shri Mahashankar Majumdar, Scientist-C, P4, Mendipathar, Dr Ravikumara, R, Scientist-B, P3 Kobulong and Shri D. Saicharan, Scientist-B, MSSPC, Kaliabari, their technical guidance and field-level interactions greatly enriched the learning experience of the participants.
The Day 6 field exposure played a crucial role in reinforcing the trainees’ understanding of the Muga seed multiplication chain and institutional research support systems, effectively bridging theory with practice.

Day 5 of the Induction Training Programme of Newly Recruited Scientists (Batch III), the participants undertook an exposure visit to the Wild Muga Range in the Raimona forest area, Kokrajhar, to gain first-hand understanding of the primary, secondary and tertiary host plants of the Muga silkworm.
Subsequently, the trainees visited the Eri Silk Village at Mothambil, Gossaigaon, and interacted with progressive Eri farmers engaged in active Eri rearing at Bongshigaon and Kashibari villages of the Gossaigaon Sericulture Circle, under the Directorate of Sericulture, Adabri, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Kokrajhar.
The visit was attended by Shri Zakir Hussain, Assistant Manager, and Shri Ranjit Brahma, SD, Gossaigaon, as State representatives.
The exposure visit was led by Shri Mahashankar Majumdar, Scientist–C, CSB–MESSO, P4 Mendhipathar, along with Dr. Suraksha Chanotra, Scientist–B, CSB–MESSO, P3 Kowabil, and Dr. Ravikumara R., Scientist–B, CSB–MESSO, P3 Kobulong.

Day 4 of the Induction Training featured an enriching field visit to Kokrajhar, Bodoland — the winter rearing hub for muga silk.
🔹 The programme included a visit to CSB MESSO P3 Kowabil, providing hands-on exposure to muga rearing practices in MESSO units. 🔹 Interaction with MESSO seed unit scientists enabled in-depth discussions on field-level challenges and practical solutions. 🔹 Participants were exposed to facilities at Bodoland Silk Park, Kokrajhar, DoS, BTC. 🔹 A visit to the Eri Spun Mill offered insights into post-cocoon processing and value addition.

The day also featured a field visit to the Golden Silk Park, Khanapara, under the DoS, Assam, followed by an engaging Group Discussion on advancing climate-smart approaches for sustainable Muga & Eri sericulture.

500 Stranded Mani-Mahesh Yatra Pilgrims Allowed to Proceed
About 500 Mani-Mahesh Yatra pilgrims, stranded at #Bhaderwah since yesterday due to adverse weather and landslides, were permitted to continue on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road today. The pilgrims traveled in 72 vehicles from the Thanhala Police checkpoint.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhaderwah, Sunil Kumar Bhutyal, confirmed that only stranded vehicles were allowed to proceed to Chamba after clearing the backlog. However, the Mani-Mahesh Yatra remains suspended due to hostile weather conditions.
