Congrats @jessie_muir & @LatinaNeuroNerd!
I am very excited to share that our lab will be moving to @Princeton in January of 2025!
We will be in the new Bioengineering Institute @omenndarlingbio & the @PrincetonNeuro Institute. I'm excited for new research directions at the interface of these two fantastic groups! (1/2)
Here we present the very first paper of our lab for a calcium-dependent version of split-TurboID (CaST). It allows rapid and non-invasive labeling of active neurons for both in vitro and in vivo applications simply by exogenous biotin administration.
And it’s out! Our lab’s very first paper is published today @naturemethods!
Our calcium-activated split-TurboID (CaST) can biochemically tag activated neurons within 10 minutes, enabling a molecular handle on functionally relevant cell ensembles: https://t.co/756cfr1zkw
.@ucdavis researchers have developed a rapid, noninvasive tool to track the neurons and biomolecules activated in the brain by psychedelic drugs. Learn more @naturemethods@UCDavisIPN@DEOlsonLab

Thanks to my mentor @tinakim_neuro for the guidance and support, Kim lab members @LatinaNeuroNerd, Sophia Lin, Joshua Chandra, and Sruti Vadde for all the hard work to push this project forward, and our great collaborators @DEOlsonLab and Isak Aarrestad to make it a robust story.
We are hiring a tech in our lab @ UC Davis! We develop tools to study how neural circuits elicit behavioral changes in motivation/memory/drug-use.
Apply here: https://t.co/mXRH3hlY6S
You can expect a friendly & fast paced learning environment, publications, and conferences!
How does the hippocampal awake ripple play a role in facilitating emotional memory encoding? Excited to share my work with IvanSkelin and @linjj4, now published in @NatureComms!

Got CaST? Want to know more biochemically about your target neural ensembles?
Check out my poster Sunday 8:00am at VV10 to see how calcium sensing TurboID (CaST) tool can help boosting your project. #SfN23@SfNtweets
Excited to share the first paper from our lab! https://t.co/sqfHd5couA We engineered a new kind of time-gated calcium integrator, CaST, that can rapidly and non-invasively tag activated neurons in vivo with a small, biochemical handle. What makes this tool special and unique? 1/6
I enjoyed writing this essay about my work using light + calcium integrators for the Science & PINS prize for Neuromodulation! Honored to be selected as a finalist and to have my essay published in Science https://t.co/0KBAp1ATZR
Are you a protein engineer or biochemist looking to do a postdoc in a neuro-focused lab? Join our team! We are hiring 2 postdocs to engineer & apply in vivo activity-dependent enzymes for linking behavioral function with proteomics/RNAseq data. Info here: https://t.co/YPavTbNXuZ
Kim Lab’s first SFN, featuring new postdoc @jessie_muir! Also Day 1 of #FairUCNow. These people ARE the lab, and they deserve fair compensation and livable wages. It’s going to be an intense ride, and we’re here to support it.
Kim Lab Canine Spotlight: The Kim Lab puppies had SO fun much on our lab outing to Pacifica! Meet @LatinaNeuroNerd's Dachshund, Nova; @RunChesterZhang's Shiba, Xing Xing; & @tinakim_neuro's Shibas, Hato & Luna. (Oh, & the last pic is Isak, Josh, & Sophia with their “puppy”!) 🐾🐾
