Dr Ryo Mizuta. Senior teaching associate in Nanoscience @Cambridge_Uni. I make 3D graphics for scientific visualisation and #sciart using Blender #b3d.
The Set Mesh Normal node has just been added to #GeometryNodes. It allows adding and modifying custom normals, opening up many new possibilities. #b3d#devfund
In Blender 4.5 one can import some file formats directly into #GeometryNodes: obj, stl, ply and csv (numeric data only). This can simplify some workflows quite significantly. #b3d#devfund
It's been a while, but I'm back on YouTube! 👋
Restarting things with a tutorial on 3D visualisations of atomic force microscopy data in Blender.

Let's interact with the light waves! Here, I created a real-time simulation that can run in your browser: https://t.co/llRt1RQW4L
You can change the beam width and the focusing power of the input light rays. Please give it a try and let me know your thoughts!

A lens can perform the Fourier transform! 🔍
This is the 4F system: the first lens converts an image into its frequency components, and the second lens reconstructs it. By adding an aperture at the Fourier plane, we can filter out high frequencies.

Had an awesome time guest lecturing at the @PittEngineering last week on using Blender for scientific illustrations!
Super exciting to see 3D being used more widely in the academic space👏
Huge thanks to @DrChrisWilmer for inviting me over!

Watch how BAM and SurA fold proteins!
Our cryoEM structures brought to life in this awesome animation by @phospho! Read about it in our paper published last month https://t.co/TcZ9vS0bmc
@RadfordLab@naranson
What if you could make physics diagrams come alive? At #UIST2024, we will be presenting our paper, Augmented Physics, an ML-Integrated Authoring Tool for Creating Interactive Physics Simulations from Static Diagrams

#SciartSeptember Day 30 (random edition)
This is the last day of the challenge. Thank you so much for joining me! Enjoy the last entry: a cute and fluffy mini protein 😊
I hope you had as much fun as I did. See you in October 💛

#SciartSeptember Day 14 (random edition)
Metal–organic frameworks are formed by combining metal ions and organic linkers yielding in fascinating structures like this ⛓️

Congrats to @Brown_BME PhD Krishangi Krishna on her 1st first-author FRONT COVER! Huge thanks to @ShuklaLab for samples & @Ryo_M_Graphics for the concept art! Special s/o to Wenyu Liu on his 1st pub after taking my Optics course & joining the PROBE Lab right after! 🎉
#SciartSeptember // Day 2 (random theme edition)
No, this is not an eye 👁️, this is a part of the mud crab reovirus. It is fascinating to see how the proteins assemble to form the capsid.

Blender soft body simulations are great for animating squishy things like cells, but they break if you make cells divide. So I'm building my own cell growth soft body simulator from the ground up in blender geometry nodes. Hope to release this tool soon. #b3d
