Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development joins over 28 civil society organisations and social justice movements in demanding urgent and transformative action on the worsening sovereign debt crisis devastating millions of lives across Africa and beyond.
At a time when governments are spending more on debt repayments than on healthcare, education, food systems and social protection, debt justice has become a matter of survival, dignity and human rights.
Communities should not continue paying the price for an unjust global financial system that deepens poverty, weakens public institutions and forces countries into endless cycles of austerity and dependency.
We stand in solidarity with calls for:
• Comprehensive debt cancellation and fair restructuring
• Binding participation of private creditors
• Immediate suspension of IMF surcharges
• Reform of the global debt architecture
• An African-led and people-centred financial future
The world cannot continue placing profits before people.
Debt relief is justice.
Debt justice is liberation.
