What a privilege to speak Saturday at the American Legion: Alabama Boy’s State Commencement ceremony for the 500+ graduates and their families. I am a proud 1976 graduate. It is an outstanding program.
@alboysstate
Our Court has approved a new set of rules for confidentiality in court filings. We are grateful for hard work of committees on rules of civ pro and app pro and joint task force which they helped create. Special thanks to Scott Donaldson and David Wirtes.

@scottmitchell66 Thank you for always working to find ways to serve Alabamians better and more efficiently. You are a nationally recognized leader in appellate court administration and we are fortunate to benefit from your expertise.
Over the last six weeks I’ve done evidence seminars for the Alabama Circuit/District Judges Conference, Alabama Law School CLE, the American Academy of Matrimon Lawyers, and the Tuscaloosa County Bar Association. And I’ve learned something new in each teaching event.
It was a privilege to be on a panel with Judge Joeletta Barrentine and Joshua Patrick Hayes at the Alabama State Bar civility and professionalism seminar.
Taught evidence classes this month at the National Judicial College General Jurisdiction course and the Maine Judges Conference (my 15th state judicial conference). Returned with more insight from 200+ trial judges.
This past month I taught multi-day evidence courses in Florida and Nevada, a CLE course for the Minnesota bench and bar, and a 40 hour mediation training course. I could fill a notebook with what I learned from these excellent lawyers and judges from across the country.
@ScottButtram I don’t know enough about other states or the current plain error review standard in the federal system to say. If I see something, I’ll forward it.
Can’t carry over the excess 601 CLE hours this year - doesn’t include teaching law school and National Judicial College courses. Always learn more than I teach and did 68 meditations. But we must change our current education/CLE model to survive – see https://t.co/khDqqag0Ki p18.
Taught a 4 day courtroom evidence course (my 18th) for The National Judicial College last week in Arizona to trial judges from across the country. As always, I learned so much more than I taught. @thenjc
A great experience teaching with Judge Elisabeth French this week as a faculty member at the National Judicial College flagship course General Jurisdiction.
I’m very happy to say I’ve joined the excellent lawyers at Rosen Harwood to expand my mediation practice and to develop a statewide appellate and litigation practice.
I was privileged to be a speaker at the Nevada Bar Annual Conference last week, the 12th state where I have been a CLE/CJE conference speaker on evidence or trial skills. I always benefit from talking with lawyers and judges in different states about these topics.
How do you handle emerging new technology in your court cases? Ask Judge Scott Donaldson, who presented a fascinating session on deepfake videos on Thursday at the Annual Bar Conference. #SBNsonoma
