The Metabolic Storm: the science of your metabolism and why it's making you fat. Diabesity Institute, Seattle Performance Medicine, Cooper Center for Metabolism
@BevTchangMD@ClemmensenC Are we sure it’s independent of AgRP action and thus MC4R activity? Doesn’t the NMDA receptor play a role in AgRP promotion? Can you describe the mechanism that’s independent? Thanks!
@DrNadolsky@BlytheandDogs For decades doctors have justified the calorie in and out model by dismissing these observations as patients under reporting food intake and over reporting exercise. What we should really be discussing is the science of metabolism, neuroendocrine factors and biological adaptation.
@BlytheandDogs@DrNadolsky GLP-1 and GIP are powerful biological food security signals that interact significantly both centrally (brain and nervous system), and peripherally throughout the body. So, of course, as you suspect, it’s more complex than calories in and out.
@DrNadolsky If only that actually worked for the majority of people with high body weight. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the big answer was that simple and totally in one’s control.
@POTUS Ridiculous and dangerous message. There is no scientific support for annual-only covid vaccine protection with current variants and current vaccines. Shocking and disappointing. Either political positioning or incompetence.
@POTUS Unfortunately, there are no data to support this assertion. Likely attainable by second generation vaccines, but that requires priority and resources to be dedicated, which isn't happening.
#SARSCoV2 is unlike flu w/r to distinct seasonality, adding to the challenge.
Inflammation and dysfunction of the lining of blood vessels—the endothelium—is the basis for many of the cardiovascular complications of Covid. A new, solid review here https://t.co/1GiS8XXzT7
@Poppendieck You’ve got to be kidding. Doesn’t convey competence or build confidence. Even my private clinic runs consistently under 650 CO2 even at busiest times of day and everyone is still masked.
How did Japan, with ~40% more of its population age 65+ than the United States, have the lowest Covid death rate of any major country in the world? https://t.co/z68bDAyl3a
It was truly nostalgic to present at @BrighamWomens Internal Medicine Grand Rounds last week. I wish I could say this “controversy” of using race in #eGFR equations is a thing of the past. #Bullying of those pushing for change continues to occur on all levels. This MUST stop🗣
Disappointing #weightloss results for liraglutide over 52 weeks in Children and Adolescents with Prader-Willi Syndrome and #Obesity Waiting for Semaglutide and Tirzepatide https://t.co/1RzUDtgYhM
@RossettiAllen @meganranney@CDCgov What’s the point of removing masks indoors in close settings with minimal ventilation? I don’t get it. It’s not to protect patients, so who is it for?
I'm not sure how anyone can push the idea that Covid is equivalent to Flu. Risk is much higher across every age group, and especially higher as you get older.
