Where this gets me is when I am using a compiled language and recompile four times with prints instead of just going to the debugger which would be faster. It's a software equivalent of cutting a block of wood by hand because you don't want to get the power saw.

@BrianFinifter @DJSnM 1) We do this for Naval ships today in real life. But Sam, why would you need a prototype when you have holodecks? Simulations don't break, that's why. You can cycle a pump 100times for training and figure out that when it breaks it takes down the whole system.

@djinh @am_yeff @DJSnM Truth. Submarine are air tight with insanely thick steel. It wouldn't even notice being in space. However, there are places where water is designed to leak in (like at the shaft) that would start leaking atmosphere quite quickly. Submarine = fine, crew = dead within hours or days

@Knoblauchkeks @nixcraft This is a common stipulation of engineering contracts. All IP you generate while employed at a company is company property regardless of if you did it "on the clock". That is why engineers generally quit before starting a company because the old employer would have IP ownership.

@DJSnM Another consideration is that internal bulkheads are generally about the same thickness as the hulk so to cut a ship in half twice is faster than cutting through a few bulkheads.

@MayaPosch For me socketed RAM and CPU are nice features I would want but never realistically use. Soldered or integrated GPU is a serious consideration that I am more likely to replace. I have replaced the HDD/SSD on every computer I have ever owned and is a strict no go since my Surface.
