I butchered bistro to create a better demo level for my godot + blender pre-rendered background game dev tools. Good showcase for all the features like capsule shadows, camera rotation, and depth sorting. Next up is adding irradiance volumes to better light dynamic objects.
@CDNPolicyHawk You forgot to mention that through luck, this incompetent procurement process ended up benefiting Canada. Had we purchased the original block II f-35s in 2012, they would have been less capable and more expensive.
โShrekโ was a launch title for the original Xbox that I worked on 25 years ago. It was the first shipped game to use a technique called Deferred Shading. It wasnโt my first 3D game, though: I wrote Sandbox Studiosโ software rasterizer and D3D7 renderers.

@Love2Code@SimonHamelin Ive tried giving claude screenshots in the past but it still often guesses the root cause. Its very bad at following algorithmic logic that outputs pixels. Couldnt even solve simple sign errors
Amazing. No need to aswer now, I can wait for a blog post but Id like to know: dev time to first godot run with something showing on screen, any bugs where the llm made wrong assumptions or implemented something you explicitly told it not to, workflow of using llm + shader/gpu debugger like render doc or the one in xcode.
@hecubian_devil The likely result is a massive imbalance between the visual fidelity and writing in ai generated film/tv. In childrens content i wouldnt be surprised by something with spiderman elsa storylines and jim henson level visual presentation.
@valigo Film industry in LA is facing similar problems. Its cheaper to film in canada or the uk and the small talent gap is not worth the salary premium
@valigo Del has been talking about this for a while now and how its resulted in the disappearance of โAAโ short 10 hour games https://t.co/Mep3ls29RE
Yes. Most of gamedev costs are the salaries, which must match the local cost of living. Oppressive rent prices make it difficult to make games in many cities, but if that game isn't a fucking hit, it's often enough to destroy that studio outright now. No misses allowed anymore.
Uncharted 1 didn't sell amazingly. Nor did Demon Souls. Red Ded Revolver and the first Yakuza also suffered from lukewarm sales. Imagine if those studios never had a chance to come back stronger because the sheer financial stress of cost-of-living-matching-salaries wiped them out.
