Our tribute to Dr. David W. Schindler (1940–2021), world-renowned scientist and environmental advocate, in Trends in Ecology & Evolution (@Trends_Ecol_Evo): https://t.co/jNYSyv3Wj2 #cdnsci
This is about the time of year we invite our @LOWDSAssoc pals to jump on a bus and come visit us.
This year, we have had to switch things up a little, but @not_Klaatu will be explaining how and why we're researching on plastics.
See you tomorrow at 4 p.m https://t.co/2kEXkbFtNU
“His groundbreaking research on phosphates, acid rain, climate change, UV radiation and transboundary pollutants had rattled governments in North America and Europe and driven important policy changes around the world.”

As his last PhD student, I will remember the late Dr. #DavidSchindler as a man of big dreams, big science, big impact. I celebrate his storied career as a giant of #cdnsci. But more over, as a bold environmental scientist who wasn't afraid to speak truth to power in #cdnpoli.
David Schindler was a great Canadian. He practiced science in the public interest. He was unafraid & unshakeable.
He used his tremendous knowledge to speak up, demand change, push for better. He pushed his colleagues for same.
He made Alberta better for all of us. #ableg
The University of Alberta is mourning the loss of ecology professor emeritus David Schindler, a devoted family man, friend and mentor, and one of the world’s strongest and most respected voices advocating for water safety and sustainability: https://t.co/FSij4MyCRK #UAlberta
This is truly sad news. David Schindler was a passionate and courageous voice of scientific reason. (A highlight of my life/career was being invited a decade ago to make a presentation with him to a federal all-party committee on water use in the oilsands) https://t.co/wVglg5cXPm
My good friend and fishing companion, David Schindler, died today. He was one of the world's greatest scientists and his death is a loss for all of us. Condolences to his wife, Suzanne Bayley in Brisco, BC.
Such a huge loss. I am shocked and grieving at news of the death of Alberta scientist, Dr. David Schindler. He was a hero, a champion, a mentor to many young scientists. Deep condolences to friends and family. #science#freshwater#courage#GPC
Alberta lost a hero with the passing of David Schindler. He uncovered evidence of risk to our environment - often in the face of pressure to stay silent. Although not fast as he would have liked, he fundamentally changed the debate in Alberta and protected so much as a result.
"Government officials were terrified of David Schindler because he would just spare no words and go right to the throat on issues where the government was not paying attention to science.”

The world has lost one of the 20th centuries leading conservation scientists. Limnologist David Schindler died on March 4, 2021, at the age of 80.

A giant of Canadian science, David Schindler, died today. I had the honour of working w David when he was on the board of @DavidSuzukiFDN. He had a huge impact on the organization and Canada's environmental movement. May his family, friends and colleagues find peace and comfort
Dr. Schindler was the reasoned voice of science who I and other reporters interviewed constantly in the 90s for #ableg stories as the boreal forest was being sold off to the pulp and paper industry. #respect
Canada lost one of its best known and most vocal scientist. Limnology would not be what it is today without his work and mentoring. His courage and dedication to speak up for the environment will continue to live with many of us. @Can_Limnology @SIL_limnology@IAGLR
