President @RTErdogan met with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, who is paying a visit to Türkiye, at the Dolmabahçe Presidential Office in Istanbul.
The illegal aggression of PM Netanyahu in recognising a part of Somalia’s Northern region is against international law. Meddling with Somalia’s internal affairs is contrary to established legal & diplomatic rules. Somalia & its people are one: inseparable by division from a far.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission rejects any recognition of Somaliland and reaffirms the African Union’s unwavering commitment to the unity and sovereignty of #Somalia.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has taken note, with deep concern, of recent developments relating to Somaliland.
In this regard, the Chairperson of the Commission unequivocally reaffirms the longstanding and consistent position of the African Union, grounded in the principles enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union, in particular the respect for the intangibility of borders inherited at independence, as affirmed by the 1964 decision of the Organization of African Unity.
The Chairperson of the Commission @ymahmoudali firmly rejects any initiative or action aimed at recognizing Somaliland as an independent entity, recalling that Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Any attempt to undermine the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia runs counter to the fundamental principles of the African Union and risks setting a dangerous precedent with far-reaching implications for peace and stability across the continent.
The Chairperson of the Commission reiterates the African Union’s unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia, as well as its full support for the efforts of the Somali authorities to consolidate peace, strengthen State institutions, and advance inclusive governance.

In this digital era, we no longer live under the illusion that social media is reserved for curated sainthood or performative silence. Like any professional, I maintain the right to share glimpses of my personal or professional journey - whether from Mogadishu or Manhattan, without seeking validation from self-appointed guardians of public decorum.
Official matters are handled through official channels. What I share on my personal platforms reflects lived experience, not state policy. Confusing the two is either a sign of willful misrepresentation or an unfamiliarity with professional norms.
Your unsolicited policing of Somali public figures, including the President, veers into condescension that borders on neocolonial arrogance. Lecturing elected Somali officials on how to manage their image or presence is not only inappropriate - it is offensive.
This kind of discourse does not come from a place of constructive criticism but from a place of contempt, and it does nothing to uplift Somalia’s image or its leadership. Respect, after all, is a two-way street.
We welcome debate and dialogue, but only when rooted in sincerity, not showmanship.
It was a valuable experience to moderate the important discussion on Strengthening Digital Privacy for Mental Health, hosted by @brainstory24. As social media grows, we urgently need safer digital spaces through policies and awareness.
H.E President @HassanSMohamud has today called for the National Political and Civil Society Leaders’ Consultation Forum, commencing in Mogadishu on June 15, 2025. This historic gathering will bring together leaders from across Somalia to advance the nation’s state-building agenda.
The forum will focus on critical priorities, including strengthening security and countering terrorism, advancing democracy and electoral processes, finalizing the national constitution, fostering unity, and promoting genuine reconciliation. These discussions will lay the groundwork for a stronger, more inclusive Somalia.
In preparation for this forum, H.E Hassan Sheikh has conducted extensive consultations over recent weeks with former national leaders, heads of Federal Member States, political organizations, and civil society representatives. These engagements reflect the President’s commitment to inclusive dialogue rooted in the public interest.
The President will continue to engage stakeholders in the lead-up to the forum to ensure robust participation and meaningful outcomes. Political and Civil Society leaders are called upon to play a pivotal role in this vital initiative and to respond promptly to the formal invitations issued by the Presidency.
A special committee, chaired by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. @HassansheikhAli, has been appointed by the Federal Government of Somalia to oversee technical arrangements and facilitate preparatory meetings for the forum.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reaffirms his dedication to building a united, secure, and prosperous Somalia through collaborative and transparent efforts. The National Consultation Forum represents a significant step toward realizing this vision.

During my two-week trip to Europe, I visited four European capitals: Rome, Stockholm, Helsinki, and Amsterdam. I observed that Europe's advantage lies in its aging cities and historic buildings, as well as its strong governance, progress, and prestige in the public sector, particularly in the areas of taxes, civil registration, social services, and healthcare.
However, I also noticed that Europe is facing economic challenges due to its heavy tax system on both individuals and public production. Despite this, these countries view taxes as the main source of government income, with the revenue going towards social services, healthcare, security, defense, and development.
Taxes are allocated to develop infrastructure, including roads, subways connecting cities, and countryside, as well as for social welfare. Citizens have the basic rights to electricity, water, mail, housing, and work.

The ultimate measure of a constitution is not the quality of its content but rather how well it is practiced. True, the application of Somalia’s provisional constitution was messy. I wonder, though, whether in the amended constitution we are heading into a much bigger mess.
