This is how you train the market to discount your own announcements.
Say Tampa and Orlando, people get excited.
Then they remember Dallas and Houston are still barely populated with vehicles.
That is the dangerous part for $TSLA. Not slow progress. Slow progress is fine.
Over-marketed progress is the credibility killer.
Tesla has to stop confusing βavailable in a cityβ with βmeaningfully operating in a city.β
Those are not the same thing.
Not to be that guy, but this is right before earnings...again. This happened with Dallas and Houston last quarter and 94 days after those launches Tesla is still ~5-10 active vehicles in those locations. Just something to keep in mind $TSLA
elon is my guy and one of my favorite people on earth but he is not perfect and i hope he sees some of this chatter and calibrates because its completely self inflicted fallout. motivate the team internally and just keep expectations low publicly until they have a better handle on when real scale will happen
Well said @DillonLoomis. The reality is $TSLA (-15% YTD) has underperformed both $GM (-2% YTD) and $F (+9% YTD), largely because TSLA management continues to overpromise and underdeliver. Does anyone really believe that GM and F unsupervised autonomy platforms are superior to TSLAβs? Of course not. But Elon keeps making outlandish promises such as this one a year ago on the TSLA Q2 '25 conference call: βI believe half of the population of the US will be covered by Tesla's Robotaxi by the end of the year.β The comms at TSLA are sorely lacking and @elonmusk needs to bring on 1-2 adults to shore up credibility.
Hey, itβs See You At 10X π€π€
$TSLA has a bright future. That does not mean every missed Elon Musk promise must be defended like scripture.
βShouldnβt we be used to it?β is not a serious argument. Investors should never become accustomed to repeated public targets being missed by wide margins.
Context matters. So does accountability.
Being bullish on Tesla does not require being blind.

@TeslaBoomerMama@roydendsouza conspiracy theories? lol
why do some of you seem totally incapable of just saying "elon was wrong"
it doesnt make him a bad person or tesla a bad company. just painfully wrong numerous times. nothing more nothing less
@nerdalert@LimitingThe Agreed - Elon will get there in the end but perhaps should keep his super ambitious targets internal and secret and publically under promise and over delverβ¦..
As usual, Dillon's take here is exactly on point. I'm a huge believer in the LT vision of the company and believe they will be wildly successful in time.
But TBH I don't trust management's commentary anymore. Way too many broken promises and missed deadlines.
@hamiltonchan This is a very fair take and reflects my own view of things quite accurately.
But it's a bit of a ridiculous own-goal that Elon has lost so much trust with his investors.
I agree with this more than I want to.
Iβm not selling
$TSLA
because timelines slipped. Thatβs not the point.
The point is that repeated public misses train the market to discount future claims, even when the underlying progress is real.
Underpromise and overperform would do more for Teslaβs credibility than another heroic deadline.
Elon MUST realize credibility is a compounding asset too.

@DillonLoomis Ive only been an investor in tssla since august and there has been an awful lot of BS even in that time
Elon we t on joe rogan and said the roadster would be unveiled in January or something like that. Nothing
Optimus v3 demo doesn't seem like it's anytime soon
We got here because of how Elon treats retail. I still feel burned that TSLA never took a meaningful position in SpaceX, while he sold TSLA on the open market to fund Twitter and set up xAI. Grok shouldβve been built at Tesla. It's incredibly frustrating to watch SpaceX 5x in private markets while Tesla stock stays completely flat.
We've been misled on robotaxi for years, and until we see a meaningful revenue bump or a real rollout, the community will stay divided. Now heβs pulling similar moves with the SpaceX IPO, peddling it to retail through hedge-fund influencers despite what the actual revenues justify.
The hypocrisy is wild. If space-based datacenters are just around the corner, why did he have to privately buy APR Energy, a $1B mobile natural gas turbine company? He bought it privately to power xAI, essentially standing up yet another competitor that fights with Tesla Energy for datacenter infrastructure business. He acts like a savior to his base but looks out for his big private partners while retail money stays flat. I'm holding my TSLA, but I'm absolutely sitting out the SpaceX IPO.
I was also bothered with his Pennsylvania tour during the election as well. He hinted like he was going to build factors there if Trump was elected. Trump got elected, and crickets. Pure manipulation of the peasant class. I still like him, but I'd like it if he stopped bs'ing retail.
Seriously??? How did we get here??? People like you and the eternal optimists that think Tesla can do no wrong. Brushing off every single criticism, regardless of how valid they are. You all need a major reality check and reset your expectations and what you say. Take a page out of @DillonLoomis book and give the good with the bad and stop shitting all over those that disagree. Tesla deserves a lot of the recent criticism they receive and it's self-inflicted too. It's time for them to put up or shut up. What they are doing is hard, but they need to set realistic expectations and be transparent as to why they were missed when that happens.
