When a small boy from Manipur dreamed of reuniting his family, he never imagined the world would embrace his story.

Boong, a Manipuri debut feature, has made history at the 2026 BAFTA Awards, winning Best Children and Family Film.

Competing against global giants like Zootopia 2, Lilo & Stitch and Arco, it stood tall as the only Indian entry and the first Indian film ever to win in this category.

The film follows a young schoolboy navigating racial tensions and the fragile realities of life along the Manipur border, as he sets out to reunite his fractured family for his mother.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, Boong premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before travelling across major global festivals and arriving at this historic moment in London.

On stage, visibly emotional, Devi said, “To walk up till here felt like the last few steps to reach a summit of a mountain we never knew we were climbing in the first place.”
