I'll tell you another case. Bought a vehicle recently. The sales manager is responsible for a team of 10 people. He is in his mid thirties. Though no one is compelling him, the sales targets make him work for all days a month, except two days off he avails for himself. Everyone, including him, in the dealership works for 12 hours a day. His target is to sell 70 vehicles a month.

His salary is Rs.30,000 a month. He gets Rs.200 incentive for a vehicle sold. So, his total earnings is Rs 44,000 a month - for working 12 hours a day and 28 days a month. You've to see his work pressure to believe it. He has to handhold the clients at every step, from the time of inquiry to delivery of the vehicle.

He is married and has a 7 year old kid. He lives in a rented house. His wife is a home maker.

Life is very tough, even in a well to do urban area like Chennai. This is the reality of India.

There's a culture in Big4s - if someone leaves office at 6PM, the managers ask "half-day kya" ?

EY will undertake a massive campaign internally, to undo the damage this episode has done to them;

In the short-term, there will be 'forced' relaxations on work-hours; there will be Friday fun events; there will be some sponsored yoga & breathing lessons; they will even ask you to bring your family to office saying 'we are one big family';

After exactly 3 months, things will be back to where they were because intrinsically these places are toxic by design.
