The lessons in @SmallTownRules (the book that @barrymoltz and I wrote in 2012) are scarily applicable today. Plan for zero, diversify your lines of income, prepare for seasons and cycles, look long term.
@tom_peters These are the small town rules. Treat everyone as if we’re all interconnected. Plan for zero. Reputation is forever. Don’t do anything you don’t want your family to see on the front page of the newspaper.
@andrewceverett@tom_peters Expect there will be times with zero income, and plan accordingly. I learned that from farming and included it in my book Small Town Rules, but it’s particularly apropos now.
Rather than pushing local businesses to do everything they can to barely hang on, piling on credit card debt and new loans, maybe it makes more sense to help some wrap up their businesses in the least damaging way.

If you can't pay speakers for your event, you can still offer value for value: provide quality video and photos, help speakers get mentioned in media, give outstanding testimonials when earned, and ask speakers what else they find valuable. #eventprofs#assnchat
