Superscrypt

An early stage web3 investment company. We back innovative builders🏗️ & scale them 🚀

[Superscrypt @Superscrypt]

Our GP and Founder, @jacobkxyz represented @Superscrypt on the "Lean In: Web3, AI and Malaysia’s Global Tech Founders" panel at #KL20 today, alongside @sssionggg (@JupiterExchange) and Sophie Chiu (@AppWorks), moderated by @coingecko's @Zhongychan

Three things we believe, shared on stage:
• Malaysia’s edge goes beyond the English, Mandarin and Malay stack. Founders here navigate multiple cultures by default, which is exactly what building global, internet-native products demands.
• Asia’s currency fragmentation created the world’s largest remittance corridors. Stablecoins and crypto rails are a natural fit for how this region already moves money.
• The proof is already shipping. Jupiter was built from KL with roughly 2% of its users in Malaysia. Teams here build for the world from day one.

Thank you @jelawangcapital, @khazanah_MY and the KL20 team for the stage, and to the builders who filled the room. See you later at the Demo Stage for Jacob's panel 🫡

Bites & Brews is a wrap.

Thank you @PanteraCapital, @Anchorage and @GondorCapitalIO for co-hosting, and to everyone who turned up the night before TOKEN2049 and stayed longer than they planned to.

A lot of the best conversations were about this region. Southeast Asia has quietly become one of the densest talent pools in crypto with leading protocols coming out of here. New tech gets adopted first, and the founders are hungry in a way that’s hard to manufacture.

We’re bullish on the talent here. Exciting times ahead!

Tomorrow at @stblcnsummit, our Founding Partner, Jad Chahine, will host a fireside on what it actually takes to put stablecoins in 20M+ hands.

Join him tomorrow with @MarkusCelo from @Celo and @MurraySpark from MiniPay @opera to hear how they bring global currencies onchain, and what it actually takes to scale stablecoins past 20M users.

"When we're investing this early into a founder, you have to be the busiest and most connected person in the company."

Our GP, @jacobkxyz joined @BFMradio alongside Charles Wong of TNB Aura for a full hour on how early-stage venture actually works in Southeast Asia.

What's inside:
🔹 Why we back founders over ideas. The best builders iterate. Some of the strongest protocols in crypto are a founder's third or fourth attempt at the same problem.

🔹 Why Malaysia keeps producing world-class crypto teams: Jupiter, Pendle, Etherscan and CoinGecko all have Malaysian founders or roots.

🔹 How fast SEA is compressing: reaching $10M in revenue used to take 7-8 years here. Some teams now do it in months.

And one more from the hour, on why this job requires saying yes when it's uncomfortable:

"You can either want to take a risk, or you can be right. If you want to be right, you'll say no to everything."

Some of what we got up to during Startup Village Borneo - held in Kuching, Sarawak Malaysia by @SuperteamMY & @socoe_s and featuring 32 teams building solutions in DeFi, RWA, Collectibles & even local community problems on @solana!

[Jacob Ko @jacobkxyz]

(1/5) Last week I had the pleasure of supporting Startup Village Borneo held in Kuching, Sarawak by @SuperteamMY & @socoe_s as a mentor & judge.

Over 100 builders - 70% of them Malaysian - formed 32 teams pitching solutions built on @Solana.

The winners?

[marianne @tuakdotsol]

two VCs went on @BFMradio and gave one of the best breakdowns I've heard of how venture actually works in SEA. worth the full hour if you're a student or builder.

my notes:
🇲🇾 Malaysia's crypto companies (per @jacobkxyz from @Superscrypt) that are hidden gems punching above their weight:

1 | @JupiterExchange: ~$400M annualised revenue last year
2 | @pendle_fi: ~$40M revenue, pioneered yield trading onchain
3 | @etherscan: ~$20M, THE default block explorer that branched off to @solscanofficial and more
4 | @coingecko: reportedly started with a $100 investment
all Malaysian founders or roots.

🎓 on breaking into VC: no finance degree or silver spoon needed. Jacob went from agritech at Temasek to crypto VC by moving money onchain during lockdown and posting his analysis on Twitter. his advice to students verbatim: don't come asking for a job. post your research publicly (basically build in public!). why does this protocol make money, why could it 10x, why could it go to zero. do that enough times and you've speedrun the actual job.

🚩 red flags they fund against: raising institutional money while running a side hustle, sending your EA to investor calls at seed stage ("you have to be the busiest, most connected person in the company"), chasing magazine features before revenue, and husband-wife co-founder teams unless the skill sets are exceptional / complementary.

📈 pretty interesting stats: $10M revenue in SEA used to take 7-8 years. by 2021 it was 4-6. now some companies do it in months. we are going through a hyper-acceleration of scaling, where the old rules of time and growth no longer apply.

building-in-public path is how a lot of our @SuperteamMY members got their start btw. worst case someone yells at you in the replies, which just sharpens your thesis 😉

[Superscrypt @Superscrypt]

Proud to be a supporter of Startup Village Borneo with @Solana @Socoe_S

32 teams, 100+ builders from around the world and an amazing venue in Kuching Sarawak - all building solutions on Solana.

Great job @tuakdotsol & @hanstmy!

"Fundraising is a muscle that needs to be trained."

@jacobkxyz on what we look for beyond the pitch: think big, have grit, and users first.

Capital is a trust - we steward our LPs', as founders steward ours.
