Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, has been named the country’s next foreign secretary. Amna Baloch will retire from government service on September 17 before assuming charge as Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkiye. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said he was confident that under Asim Iftikhar’s leadership, the Foreign Office would continue advancing Pakistan’s interests “with clarity, professionalism and purpose.”

The 33rd Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, Ambassador Amna Baloch, after a distinguished career spanning over three decades and her tenure as Foreign Secretary since 11 September 2024, will retire from government service on 17 September 2026. I commend her dedicated service and leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a consequential period in Pakistan's diplomatic history.

Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch leaves behind a legacy of dedicated public service, and carries with her our warmest wishes. She will assume charge as Pakistan's Ambassador to Türkiye, after retirement. I am confident she will continue to serve Pakistan with distinction in this new role.

I am delighted to also announce that Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, who is currently Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will be the next Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.

I am confident that, under Ambassador Asim's leadership, the Foreign Office will continue to advance Pakistan's interests with clarity, professionalism and purpose, building on the important work undertaken by Ambassador Amna Baloch and all her predecessors.

I am further pleased to share that the Honourable Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif @CMShehbaz has kindly approved the aforesaid assignments.

According to FO at the Ministry, he has worked in Europe Section and Training & CP Section as Assistant Director (July 2002 to March 2004). Subsequently, worked as Director Africa (11th October 2007 to 10th April 2008), Director (General Services) (11th April to 31st July 2008) and Director (Organization & Career Planning) (11 July 2008 till November 2009) respectively.

SYDNEY — Affable International and the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) held a meeting to discuss expanding skilled labour migration from Pakistan to Australia.

The meeting was attended by Mr Kamran Khan, OPF Executive Member and Chairman of the Education Committee, Affan Shahid, Director of Affable International,, along with Dr Nadeem Sheikh, Mr. Mudassar Ali Cheema (TI), Dr Sabir Hussain and Dr Aftab.

Discussions focused on Australia’s Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa as an accessible route for Pakistani skilled workers, including the Labour Agreement pathway.
