I set up the TPA (Top Predator Alliance New Zealand) in 2013 to do the science needed for the Ross Sea region Marine Protected Area, the World's largest MPA
@CorvoProfano @pewenvironment@marinebrit@MPI_NZ@docgovtnz @Geo_SDNZ In my experience, Antarctic Type-B #KillerWhales#TBKW are *very* interested in other endotherms out of the water 🤣, #TCKW were much more reserved initially. Here is a video of #TBKW really happy to see humans 😃🐳

Antarctic #krill is a food source for fish, whales, seals, penguins & other seabirds. Long-term #ecosystem research at BAS underpins conservation & management of Antarctic krill & the Southern Ocean ecosystem https://t.co/7Y0y1nswnd #WorldWildlifeDay#WWD2020#SustainingAllLife
@CaptainKettles We can protect the ocean much more effectively when we know what’s down there. On land, if we wanted to protect an ecosystem, we first need to know what kind it is – lowland swamp, or beech forest, or alpine scrub - to plan properly. The ocean is no different. (2/3) ^CK.
@GiancarloLauri2 I think it's a tragedy that you are not able to continue your work on #KillerWhales. Terra Nova is a key region of the #RossSea. The science you do is an explicit priority for the #RossSearegionMPA and essential for supporting #marineconservation in #Antarctica 🇦🇶🐬🐧❄️
@Stellar_Forge@_open_science_ .... or as Nietzsche put it in his book 'Happy Science': "The will to truth means ... I shall not deceive, not even myself"
"This is about more than our little NZ Uni. It's about how a university is run: like a business … or like a taxpayer funded property whose mission is to educate the next generation?" https://t.co/HKOPHnbOmJ
11 (2.7%!) of the roughly 409 North Atlantic #RightWhales (not inc. recent calves) in a SAG (Surface Active Group) during @DFO_MAR's Aug 2019 fieldwork. Taken by photogrammetry drone in the Gulf of St Lawrence. Also note the orange poop in the corner! #NARW#Tech4Wildlife#Whales
