Africa CDC, with support from ASLM and the Government of Tunisia, concluded a successful two-day Regional Consultative Meeting in Tunis to shape North Africa’s priorities for the 2025–2030 Biosafety and Biosecurity Strategy.
Representatives from Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, and Tunisia contributed national insights toward a stronger continental framework for preventing and responding to biological threats.
Prof. Fares Khalid, Chair of the North Africa Regional BSBS Technical Working Group, emphasized the value of inclusive engagement. He stated, “This process of consulting Member States is central to ensuring the strategy reflects our priorities and that the solutions are context-based.”

Yesterday in Toronto, we welcomed a flight of 350 privately sponsored Afghan refugees to Canada. These refugees will travel to their new communities in Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Ontario and Saskatchewan, joining over 6,000 Afghans who have arrived in Canada so far.
