Under the Yunus administration, Saddam Jewel ( the President of the Bagerhat Sadar Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Student League ) was arrested in a false case linked to the so-called “July riot.”

The irony is stark: no deaths occurred in Bagerhat during the July unrest, and no riot-related incident even took place there. Despite this, Saddam,an active BSL leader was arrested and has remained in jail for the past 12 months.

From prison, Saddam wrote several letters to his wife describing the situation. One of these letters went viral yesterday. In it, Saddam wrote:

“When the case was filed, I was in India for medical treatment; this is clearly proven by my passport. Despite that, I was arrested. Don’t worry, everything will be alright.”

The letter also states that he applied for bail multiple times, but police repeatedly blocked the process.

With Saddam imprisoned, his family collapsed under immense pressure. His wife was forced to manage everything alone from outside the jail. She tried relentlessly to secure his release but failed. Saddam was the only earning member of the family, and the financial burden became unbearable.

In Bangladesh, securing bail often requires managing lawyers, paperwork, bribes and administrative hurdles; an extremely expensive and exhausting process. Under these circumstances, Saddam’s wife suffered severe mental distress.

Ultimately, overwhelmed by despair caused by her husband’s prolonged detention and the family’s financial crisis, she died by suicide along with her child.

Her brother explained the situation as follows (translated from Bangla statement):

“Due to her husband being imprisoned for a long time, Swarnali became deeply depressed. In her despair, she took her own life after causing the death of her infant child. She loved her husband deeply and had been trying in every possible way to secure his release from jail. Prolonged mental pressure and hopelessness broke her completely. Saddam’s household included his mother, sister, wife, and child living together.”

Isn't it a systematic killing?

Even after this tragedy, the Yunus administration showed shocking cruelty. Saddam was not allowed to attend the funeral of his wife and child. After prolonged negotiations, and eight hours after their deaths, police finally brought the bodies to the jail gate; yet still denied him the dignity of mourning properly.

What level of brutality is this?

One of Saddam’s friends revealed further details (translated from Bangla statement):

“Saddam, the President of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Chhatra League, was granted bail several months ago. However, SP Hasan Chowdhury ordered his re-arrest from the Jessore jail gate. Despite being granted bail, he was not released. Because he remained imprisoned, the resulting mental pressure and despair drove Saddam’s wife to take her own life.

Bagerhat Police super Hasan Chowdhury; formerly linked to Shibir,now a Jamat linked police officer; also blocked Saddam’s parole to attend his wife and child’s funeral. Saddam could not even be present at their funeral.

What happened to Saddam’s family is not an isolated incident. @albd1971 supporters and even ordinary activists across Bangladesh are facing similar persecution under the Yunus administration.

No major national media outlet has covered these atrocities. International media remain silent. Human rights organizations appear blind.

This may be a long struggle; but the atrocities committed against us will not be forgotten, and will not be forgiven.

For the first time in memory, the dead went to visit the living.
A mother and her child, no longer breathing, were carried to a prison gate so a husband and father could look at them one last time. Five minutes. That was all he was given to say goodbye to the people who had been his whole world.

Their bodies crossed districts because mercy could not cross a prison wall. No parole. No compassion. Only silence, steel bars, and grief.

And this happened in the land now ruled by mobs, under the watch of a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Professor Dr. Abul Barkat is a Bangladeshi economist, researcher, and academic. He taught for a long time in the Department of Economics at the University of Dhaka and also served as the department chair. He has been involved in more than 600 research works and publications.

Alongside his academic career, he served as the chairman of Janata Bank and held multiple terms as the president of the Bangladesh Economic Association. In recognition of his work, he received the Ibrahim Memorial Gold Medal and the “Order of the Rising Sun” award from the Government of Japan.

Dr. Abul Barkat was arrested on 11 July 2025 from the Dhanmondi area, where he was accused in a fabricated loan fraud case. For more than four months, this distinguished economist and professor has been kept in prison without trial and despite having committed no crime.

Yet Bauls resist with nothing but song—with a philosophy built on love, equality, and freedom.
The oppression of Bauls is not just a story of religious intolerance; it is a story of power crushing a marginal but deeply humanist tradition.

As long as militancy and fundamentalism rule parts of Bangladesh, Bauls will remain in danger.

মানিকগঞ্জে কোর্ট প্রাঙ্গনে আবুল সরকারের সমর্থকদের ঢুকতেই দেয় নাই। উনার ভক্ত বাউল ফকিরদের মেরে এরই মধ্যে দশ বারোজনের মাথা ফাটিয়ে দিয়েছে। হাসপাতালেও ঢুকতে দিচ্ছে না। সেখানেও পাহারা বসিয়েছে। "একটা একটা বাউল ধর ধইরা ধইরা জ বা ই কর" শ্লোগান দিচ্ছে জামাতের লোকজন। এদিকে আবুল সরকারের স্ত্রী অসুস্থ হয়ে আলেয়া বেগম হাসপাতালে ভর্তি।

বাউলদের হাতে লাঠি তুলে নেওয়ার সময় এসেছে! কেউ নিরাপত্তা দিবে না তাদের! নিজেদের নিরাপত্তা যদি নিজেদেরই দিতে হয় সকল পীর ফকিরদের উচিত যত ভক্ত শিষ্য আছে সবাইকে আত্মরক্ষার হুকুম দেওয়া! তারা নিজেরাই নিজেদের রক্ষা করতে পারবে! এই অসহায় অবস্থা দেখতে হবে না৷ কোনো দলের আশ্রয় না নিয়ে ওলী আউলিয়াদেরই এখন দায়িত্ব নিতে হবে!

Md. Yunus and Taslima Begum jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize. That means Yunus received one half of the Nobel, and Taslima received the other half. Yet despite being only half-owner of the Nobel, Yunus alone has enjoyed the full honour of it for years. Because he won the Nobel Prize, he went on to receive many other awards as well. He never reminded anyone that he was not alone — that a woman had won the Nobel alongside him.

He erased his female co-recipient. People have completely forgotten about Taslima Begum. I have heard that Yunus had her thrown out of Grameen Bank. Keeping himself in the light, surrounded by wealth, he cast Taslima into the dark pit of poverty. Now Taslima lives like a stranger, unknown to all. No one knows that she, like Yunus, won half of the Nobel — that she is also a Nobel laureate.

When a man is misogynistic and committed to extreme patriarchy, he will always try to hide a woman’s talent in any way possible, while loudly announcing even his own meagre abilities. In this conspiracy, Yunus is truly skilled.

@realMaalouf Advice: Please go to Afghanistan, and stay there, live there happily. Who told you to live in a country full of Christians? Your religion does not teach peaceful cohabitation with other community. Before pointing finger at other look at yourself. The problem will be solved.
