A disturbing incident has unfolded at Saharanpur Medical College, UP, where doctors were brutally assaulted by attendants of a critically ill road traffic accident patient.

Medical students in post graduate residency. A completely ignored group of people in this country.

We need to talk about this.

There is a lot at stake here. Many students do not have it easy. There is a lot of sacrifice, from study loans to family that hang in the balance.

There is a whole lot of toxicity in medical residency programs across India.

Toxic faculty, seniors and administration only adds fuel to the fire.

We need to stop hero worshiping seniors and faculty and start worshiping merit and hardwork.

We, medicos, have all faced it - subtle or overwhelming at some point in time during our journey. Subtle sexism to outright sexual harassment; automated slavery to downright hierarchical abuse, mental and physical torture is normalized in medical residency in many institutes.

Just be kind. Remember "doctor" means "teacher"

The recent incident involving the silencing of doctors by the DGP and police not only shrouds our medical fraternity in darkness but also reveals a disturbing truth: the value of reputation outweighs the loss of a young doctor's life.

As the sirens of indifference blare, it becomes evident that our guardians of law and order are more concerned with maintaining an image than addressing the unfortunate demise within their own confines. The corridors meant for saving lives now hold the echoes of silenced voices, stifled by the heavy hand of authority.

In this narrative, the pen is mightier than the scalpel, as we must wield our words to shine a light on the shadowy corners where justice falters. For every life lost under the cloak of negligence, there are countless more silenced by fear and intimidation.

It's time to rewrite the script of silence and reclaim the voices of those who have been unjustly muted. The legacy of our medical community should not be tarnished by the stains of apathy and negligence.
