The bodies of the 10 KukiZo Volunteers remain retained at Silchar Medical Hospital, despite the completion of their post-mortems today. Yesterday, following the post-mortem of six volunteers, an order from higher authorities halted the process for the remaining four, citing various excuses and imposing new demands that led to significant delays.

Today, even after the final post-mortems were completed, the hospital authorities stated that DNA tests would be conducted to match the claimants with the deceased. Only verified relatives of the 10 martyrs would be allowed to collect the bodies, causing further delays and distress.

One of the reasons for withholding the bodies is reportedly linked to the abduction of six Meitei individual mostly women in Jiribam by unknown miscreant.This reasoning, however, is condemnable given the ongoing violence against Kuki-Zo women, who have faced brutal killings and rapes throughout the conflict.

The continued refusal to release the bodies is deeply unjust and exacerbates the suffering of the bereaved families. It appears that the hospital authorities are acting under the direction of the Manipur Police, further raising concerns about the motives behind these prolonged delays.
