#Tigray: A three day protest set to take place in Tigray’s capital

A massive three-day protest is set to take place in Mekelle, Tigray’s capital, from Jan 13-15 under the slogan “Yiakel”.

14th January - #Tigray on 'brink of famine'

In Ethiopia, authorities in Tigray, the northern state, are warning that the area is on the brink of famine. Tigray's President @Reda_Getachew says at least 90 percent of people there are at risk of dying of starvation. He adds that the crisis was the result of the aftermath of the war that ended just over a year ago, as well as the ongoing drought and a lack of aid. The #Ethiopian government in Addis Ababa says the claims are exaggerated. @WFP and @USAID temporarily suspended aid supplies last year following allegations of theft. President Getachew is urging both the international community and the Ethiopian government to intervene in Tigray to save lives. DW reporter Million Haileselassie reports from the region.
