Here's a shocking example of a #closepass caught on cam.
It cost the driver:
9 Points on their licence
A fine of £600
Surcharge of £66
Costs of £110
Motorists, leave at least 1.5m when overtaking at 30mph. More if overtaking at higher speeds.

So often we see or share videos of awful driving around cyclists, so this textbook pass from an exceptionally patient & careful HGV driver for D&W Agri coming into Jedburgh deserves sharing, as does Rhoda's response! They're not on Twitter but we've thanked the haulier directly.
@claudebuttocks @IanofBradley @RoadPolicing@nevstah@PoliceStafford If you think a good solicitor would get you off as clear a road traffic contravention as driving through a red light, we have some magic beans to sell you.
@oxyuris @Anthony54296548 @SurreyRS You said yourself it's a 1mm limit for bikes, and that tyre only has 0.5mm as measured by the officer who stopped it. How was it ever going to be legal?
@Emma_MacLennan@LordWhitty@EASSTransport Can remember him in front of the Transport Select Committee, very clearly on top of his brief and passionate about it. Mind you, with Gwyneth Dunwoody chairing, you needed to be!
@Brick_Cop@metpoliceuk 2/2 ...in that situation. And those situations of struggling with a suspect or being in close quarters with one are still more of a daily occurrence than the sword/chainsaw scenarios. Better holsters now but still around 5% of police shot dead in USA are with the officer's weapon
@Brick_Cop@metpoliceuk 1/2 A colleague says the most scared he ever was in his service was being deployed to calls like pub fights in the 1970's when routinely deployed with a pistol on his hip due to the IRA threat. The thought that someone might grab the gun in the melee and use it on him...
@00Burt@MerPolTraffic You can take sunglasses off in poor weather and at night...
There are various offences which can be used if you drive during the hours of darkness in sunglasses.
@johnelworthy To be precise, £2,000 fine, £2,000 costs and an £800 surcharge (usually referred to as Victim Surcharge).
Either way it doesn't add up to £5,800, but if you're picking them up on not getting it right!
