@wife2sirhusband@JesusandWhatnot@TDisputations Uncovering nakedness in the bible actually usually refers to the act sex. Some examples are found in Leviticus 18 & 20, and Genesis 9
@TDisputations@JesusandWhatnot I think Paul actually does instruct people how to dress in the bible, but it’s not about sexual modesty, but about wealth and extravagance (1 Timothy 2:9–10, 1 Peter 3:3–4)
Agree that dressing seductively is not something Christians should do.
@beati_mites@JesusandWhatnot@TDisputations Not at all. I’m just mentioning the fact, inline with biblical scholarship, that the bible doesn’t have certain enduring concepts of modesty and doesn’t seem to address the concept. Fine if you want to go off later Christian teaching. I’m just commenting on the bible.
@beati_mites@JesusandWhatnot@TDisputations Want to link the verse that talks about modesty in regards to sexuality/showing your body? I’m aware there’s standards for dress, many times people are condemned for showing off wealth etc.
@beati_mites@JesusandWhatnot@TDisputations I’ve made a correction. I meant that it’s a cultural thing, not a biblical thing. American is too narrow. But I stand by the point that it’s not in the bible. But church fathers may have their own opinions/interpretations.
@TDisputations@JesusandWhatnot American may have been too narrow, I stand by it not being a biblical thing though. Fair enough to be informed by other teachings.
@BadFilmTakes1 I just recently started watching him. Saw the fly and a history of violence. Honest question: do you have to love the cheesy style of his movies to like them? Are there others that take a more realistic tone with dialogue/story?
@emuse1955@PhilosopherMKD@RandalRauser For me, it’s the ethics of Jesus and his moral witness that cause me to doubt other violent depictions of God (like those in the HB) not some modern “in vogue” ethical commitments.
@pydsigner@Gallo_Woodworks God being a father and Jesus being a son shows God speaking in our terms and condescending to our level. I don’t see why in fiction God can’t appear differently. Lewis (and Gerwig in this case) are not claiming to be divinely inspired or a new revelation.
@pydsigner@Gallo_Woodworks I take your point and I’m not claiming that describing action/behavior and essence can be equated but I still don’t think the claim of gender being essential is supported. Whether God is described as male or female doesn’t seem relevant to the beings function or role.
