Weather and climate data for resilience. UN Fund supporting closing the observations gap prioritising LDCs and SIDS. Founded by @UNDP @UNEP @WMO in 2021.
#SOFF - Maldives investment phase kick-off @MetMaldives on 24 Nov 2024. The 1st inception refresher training program organized by @RIMES_news . This will enhance weather observations to GBON compliance, improving local weather observation and forecasting. It will also contribute to high quality data to global communities for improving NWP performance. @UNEP@meteorologit@infoBMKG are partners in Maldives @UN_SOFF . @MoEnvmv
Our agreement with @WMO@UNDP@UNEP will generate crucial information that will expand countries’ preparedness and resilience to climate change.
This partnership also makes the IDB one of the first Multilateral Development Banks to access a UN-administered Multi-Partner Trust Fund and exemplifies work that MDBs have been doing with the UN and UN agencies to enhance collaboration.

The effectiveness of any early warning system depends on the availability and quality of data.
Unfortunately <10% of the required climate data is available from least developed states & #SIDS. I urge members at the 8th @UN_SOFF steering cmte meeting to help close the data gap.
📣 NDF has decided to support the @UN_SOFF with additional financing of EUR 6 million to close basic #Weather and #Climate observation gaps in #LDCs and #SIDS. ☁
