It’s time to #StopTheUmbrellaScams - many #umbrellacompanies rip off contractors & locum workers & also push people into being mid-sold tax avoidance schemes which could lead to another #LoanChargeScandal.
It’s time to tackle this! Close the rogue umbrellas ☔️🛑🌂#fairumbrella
We have no intention of dealing with an organisation that refuses to answer important questions in 2 letters & isn’t transparent about key issues. Umbrella company workers need & deserve openness & credible accreditation in a sector riddled with bad practice. Regulation is vital.
The #APPG have written again to Chris Bryce of the @FCSA_org for clarity on the Holiday Pay withholding and other accusations, read more about this through the link below:

We are disappointed if not surprised that @cjbryce of the @FCSA_org has refused to answer our questions, again, stating “we do not feel it is appropriate to respond to the questions raised in your latest letter…”. This does nothing to allay concerns of #umbrellacompanies workers
We were disappointed that @cjbryce of the @FCSA_org wouldn’t reply to our previous letter regarding concerns over #umbrellacompanies withholding holiday pay.
We have written a further letter with more concerns. We hope to receive a response.

The omittance of any remark over the Employment Bill and the Single Enforcement Body in the Queen’s Speech, speaks volumes of “indifference” about how discrimination against freelancers and solo business owners is reaching a fever…https://t.co/E8BxPXHZlA https://t.co/j6SNb82lt1
We are concerned about the implications for contractors & freelance workers in the light of cyber-attacks on #umbrellacompanies & also wish to understand the implications of Smith v Pimlico Plumbers regarding #holidaypay, so we’ve written to @FCSA_org
https://t.co/MSymIWu64Q
We are becoming increasingly concerned about the cyber attacks on #umbrellacompanies & the implications for workers.
Yet another reason why legislation is needed to address the many documented issues in the sector as identified in our report last year https://t.co/VjpalUiwP7
This is a hugely important judgement in the Court of Appeal relating to #holidaypay & #umbrellacompanies ⚖️ ⬇️
Workers will be able to claim holiday pay for every year they’ve denied it! Great news! 👏

Smith v Pimlico Plumbers: Round Two - Court of Appeal judgment handed down. @MichaelFordQC acted for Gary Smith on the appeal, instructed by Jacqueline McGuigan of @tmpsolicitors - case summary via link: https://t.co/lHzkoB65Xq
In my speech I mentioned how umbrella agencies are still targeting many low-paid workers on the frontline- including those working for our NHS.
I wrote to Treasury about this last year & have been raising it for over two years now! 2/4
Thanks to former Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG Chair @RuthCadbury for raising the retrospective #LoanCharge in the Finance Bill debate & also the need for legislation to stop the ongoing misselling of schemes & other abuses by some umbrella companies & recruitment agencies
Very powerful testimony from people facing the #LoanCharge & tax advisers with clients facing the Loan Charge. Yet again this shows that the rhetoric from #HMRC bears no relation to the living nightmare faced by many people. A resolution is desperately needed. #LoanChargeScandal
This ⬇️
When will the Government act & do the glaringly obvious thing..? #StopTheUmbrellaScams!
The Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG called for action earlier this year, yet the Government has so far done nothing!
#LoanChargeScandal#LoanCharge#IR35
It’s clear that #HMRC are failing to stop the ongoing promotion & operation of DR schemes & put far more effort & resources into going after those who were/are mis-sold schemes than those who operate them.
Until this changes there will be more & more victims #LoanChargeScandal
@gregwrightYP 2017 threw fuel on the fire of DR. Even more in 2021. Contractors who want to protect themselves should insist on agency payroll only - but many agencies refuse. Sitting ducks. Scandalous. #LoanCharge
The woman has been told that she supposedly used disguised remuneration, while working within the NHS in 2018-2019. Another heroic NHS workers sucked into this scandal. The umbrella company has vanished. She feels suicidal. #loancharge
No sign of issues linked to #loancharge easing. Just received this message: "How can the agencies still be using these umbrella schemes and not letting us know what will happen? It really takes its toll on people's mental health. I had got really close to ending it last year."
'Unregulated umbrella companies have also been accused of facilitating and promoting tax avoidance schemes. This has led to around 6,000 contractors unwittingly becoming involved in tax avoidance or evasion schemes, according to a 2020 survey'
