🎉 It's official! 🎉
With 90% of staff voting in favor, WE WON OUR UNION ELECTION TODAY!
We'll be taking some time to celebrate, reflect, and refuel, but we'll be back in a few short weeks as our staff bargain for higher wages, transparency & better working conditions!
Today, a supermajority of @Defenders staff announced the formation of our union, #DefendersUnited. We want to work with management to create a stronger, more equitable, and more effective organization. Unfortunately, @JClarkPrez took only 3 hours to reject our request outright.
"Ninety-two percent of domestic workers are women, and more than half are women of color. The typical domestic worker is paid just $12 per hour." #FightFor15 https://t.co/260e1JF1El
"The National Labor Relations Act ... said what we should encourage unions..."
and "there should be no intimidation, no coercion, no threats, no anti-union propaganda [from employers]."
We couldn't agree more. We stand with:

Today, we officially elected our colleagues to serve as our bargaining committee and shop steward representatives. What an incredible day to be union members 🥰
Workers in Alabama – and all across America – are voting on whether to organize a union in their workplace. It’s a vitally important choice – one that should be made without intimidation or threats by employers.
Every worker should have a free and fair choice to join a union.
Today, convening leaders in support of community colleges across the nation. Tomorrow, getting the results back from our union election! 🎉💥 What a week!!

This is incredible news for the entire DC SAFE team! This will only strength and enhance their steadfast commitment to supporting all survivors! 💜
90% of employees at DC SAFE, a domestic violence crisis intervention center, voted YES on their union. They’re joining @OPEIULocal2 and OPEIU’s Nonprofit Employees United. This was a hard-caught victory!
When a boss forces a representation hearing, it means they want to argue that some workers don’t have the right unionize.
It’s union busting, plain and simple.
Shame on @LoriTFreeman! Time to recognize ALL her workers right to join @NacchoUnion!! #UnionStrong
Sending big love to our friends over at @NacchoUnion 💪 Watching nonprofit leaders like @LoriTFreeman show their true colors is so incredibly disappointing, especially when NACCHO staff SHOULD be spending all their time supporting local health depts in...a pandemic. Yikes, Lori!
📢 breaking news 📢 NACCHO CEO @LoriTFreeman is trying her hardest to bust our union! Today, we're headed to a hearing at the Trump NLRB where NACCHO management is trying to exclude nearly 60% of eligible staff from our union. Yeah, you read that right! More →
"Advocates are incredibly compassionate people who made the decision to dedicate their careers to serving others. I wholeheartedly support unionization, as a union will ensure that there is someone to advocate for them."
Share why YOUR support our union! https://t.co/PYkoXEYWa9
......the ACCT staff were nestled snug in their beds;
While visions of a unionized workplace danced in their heads! #1u#solidarity#union#MerryChristmas
