@Hogriderdev Idk why they would rotate their ssh keys but they seem to have changed.
Last time they did this, there were mega blog posts and notices.
Definitely not using bitbucket until they fix this. I ran into this at approx 19:50 UTC (17 minutes ago)
@clawrence I was sold a lie about fossil fuels replaced by solar, but when solar is manufactured using fossil energy, it’s got a low capacity factor, and wont replace the fossil fuels on grid (you need a few days of backup, LiPo batteries are categorically uneconomical), it’s… frustrating
@JoshDance@Bossmustangfan@GregorMacdonald I’m referring purely to grid scale electricity generation projects, which effectively function as a massive tug-of-war between supply and demand. If you over-supply or over-demand at any moment, the tug of war game is over (and the grid goes blackout)
@JoshDance@Bossmustangfan@GregorMacdonald There are no solutions, only trade offs. We are simply pointing out that you will not replace the fossil fuel (reliable) system with a solar/wind (unreliable) system, because it’s not actually a substitute. Capacity factor is an underrated energy supply constraint.
@GregorMacdonald@JoshDance this is 90% of the reason why you replace coal with natural gas instead of renewables. C/NG are both _reliable_ forms of energy storage, ready to release energy whenever demanded. Renewables are not an economic substitute for reliable energy supply.
@GregorMacdonald Raw Watt Hours chart completely ignores the time-value of electricity generation. The electric grid balances demand and supply second by second. Hate on coal as much as you want (plenty of reasons to), but if you don’t respect the value coal provides, you will never replace it
@Bossmustangfan@nickhedley@cover81 Howard you’re arguing with someone who doesn’t have a background in energy or engineering. It’s like arguing with a 6 year old who believes milk comes from the grocery store. Even when you win, it was only to convince the toddler about reality. More important fights ahead.
@nickhedley@cover81@Bossmustangfan Thanks to Diablo canyon !! Wouldn’t happen without it. 50% renewables (on the way to 100%) is the same math as standing on 1 leg is 50% of the way to levitation.
@nickhedley Californians are paying for 2 energy grids and it shows.
If you have a solar system that supplies 100% of your electricity, you will never throw away the incumbent FF grid because it runs at night (reliability). Just look at the CO2 intensity of the German grid. More pain needed
