WaitingForPower just got a big update. It's now an advocacy site.
We track 2,500+ energy projects stuck waiting for permits. Solar, gas, nuclear, wind, hydro, transmission, all of it. Now you can actually do something about it.

It's open source and nonpartisan. If you reach out to someone, click "I Reached Out!" so we can watch the momentum build. Know a project I'm missing? Let me know.

Why I care: demand is climbing fast with AI, factories coming back, and electrification. PJM capacity prices went from about $29 to the $329 cap in two years.
When new power can't plug in, we all pay for it on our bills. @PJMInterconnect
A lot of the delay happens at the state level too. Every state PUC and siting board is on the page with contact info and comment links, plus a feed of hearings and dockets taking public comment right now.
A few I'd look at:
3,000 MW of solar in Louisiana, waiting 3.5 yrs
2,000 MW of solar + storage in Arizona, 9.4 yrs
2,000 MW of gas in Georgia, 2.1 yrs (taking comments now)
1,689 MW TVA gas plant, 4.8 yrs
Each one has a button to take action.
Today @JakeSherman reported that House Republicans don't plan to come back before the election to vote on a Senate permitting bill.
If this slides into next year, every project on the list waits longer. Please call your senators this week.
You pick the issues you care about and tell us how you lean: liberal, moderate, or conservative. We frame your letter to Congress so it sounds like you.
The reforms are the same. The pitch can be climate, cost, or red tape, whatever matters to you.
The advocacy page has six bipartisan fixes, one for each bottleneck. Credit to @citizensclimate for the framework.

If you think this is a partisan issue, look at the queue. Gas jumped 86% last year to 253 GW. Solar is at 773 GW, storage 749, wind 220.
Everyone's stuck in the same line.

The part that gets me: only 13% of the capacity that applied to connect between 2000 and 2020 ever got built. 75% gave up.
Waiting doesn't just slow projects down. It kills them.
@FERC@ENERGY@SecretaryWright
Some numbers from the tracker tonight:
888 GW of capacity waiting
477 GW of that is zero carbon
About $1.28T in investment on hold
Longest wait: 27.4 years
That's roughly two thirds of the entire U.S. power fleet, just sitting in line.
It's not just my data. @BerkeleyLab found 2,061 GW waiting to connect to the grid at the end of 2025, about 1.5x everything we've ever built.
The typical project that came online last year waited over 5 years. In 2008 it was under 2.

We could see permitting bill language as soon as this week, says @SenJohnCurtis at #ClimateWeekNYC.
โThere will be problems,โ he said. But if stakeholders approach it with an open mind, instead of going for the kill, permitting reform might actually get done this year.
