SHOCKING! 6-Year-Old Student Dies in Visakhapatnam School
A UKG student, Pranay Tej, collapsed inside his classroom at a private school in Visakhapatnam and was later declared dead.
The family has alleged that a teacher assaulted the child over incomplete homework. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
Glad to see our Article "Abdominal obesity in India: sex stratified multilevel estimates across 707 districts from a nationally representative cross-sectional survey, published in Scientific Reports @NaturePortfolio featured in the @NewIndianXpress media 👇
"Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai are abdominal obesity hotspots: Study"

Our study shows abdominal obesity in India is rising, but not uniformly. It is shaped by where people live, work, and move. Sedentary jobs, motorised travel, and changing diets are creating high-risk urban environments, especially among men.
👉 The takeaway: this is not just a lifestyle issue, it’s also systems and environment issue.

Happy to share our new paper on #TB in Infectious Diseases of Poverty (Springer Nature):
🩸 “Burden on the Burdened: Tuberculosis among Scheduled Tribes and non-Scheduled Tribes in Constitutionally Protected Scheduled and Non-Scheduled Areas of India”
While TB prevalence in India is declining overall, the decline is markedly slower among Scheduled Tribes, showing that national gains have not yet translated into equitable progress.

India's public health system faces a growing NCD crisis, including diabetes & heart disease. The govt. launches a nationwide screening drive for those over 30. Expert Sudheer Kumar Shukla discusses the challenges & impact.

#healthcare#Health#publichealth
Non-communicable diseases (#NCDs) are now India’s silent epidemic, affecting millions and putting immense pressure on our healthcare system.
In a recent interview with Arunima Rajan-Nikhil (@journoarunima), Head of Editorial Content, Healthcare Executive (@HEmagazineIndia) Magazine, I discussed how the National Programme for Prevention and Control of NCDs (NP-NCD) and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (#AAMs, formerly HWCs) are playing a critical role in addressing this crisis.
The nationwide screening drive under NP-NCD is a game-changer, identifying at-risk individuals and enabling early diagnosis of hypertension, diabetes, and common cancers. As of March 2025, over 630 million beneficiaries have been screened, with more than 60 million patients receiving care for hypertension and diabetes. Yet, challenges remain in follow-up care, lifestyle modification, and treatment adherence.
With AAMs at the forefront, India is moving toward a preventive and person-centred approach, ensuring that screening translates into sustained care and better health outcomes. The integration of digital health tools, capacity building for frontline workers, and improved patient tracking mechanisms will be key to strengthening this effort.
