@ihteshamali Sure, whatever, 2 things, most likely senior Broadcom engineers are not doing enough creative or research work, and most importantly, this same argument could be phrased as these 10 engineers (working w Opus) can now 10x Broadcom's productivity, accelerating progress!
@Briankeating Also explains why clustering in high dimension is tricky to say the least, is that concepts of closeness, e.g. points inside a unit hypersphere, and high point density per unit vol., are not equivalent, i.e. high density !=> closeness, since diameter of unit cube = sqrt(d) >> 1.
@littmath 90%+ of Math is irrelevant to this reality. In QM, so no gravity, the standard model (QCD/QFT) can approximate reality to a scary high degree of accuracy using (Legendre) polynomials of deg <= 4. GR gives us tools to model SMBH billions of light yrs away. Unreasonable? fk yeah.
@ericweinstein@roydherbert As Eric said, P(X)=0, does not mean X is impossible, u could also be using the wrong measure.
This time, Hoffman makes another jump, that certain trace logic of Markov systems could be the basis of how consciousness works, goes into aliens, higher intelligences as well.
@polynoamial Most Chess tournaments these days, you could bet money your opponent will be some 9-12 yr old kid with 2000+ rating. They all use Stockfish to prepare & test their opening ideas.
@Kasparov63 Neither Stockfish nor human players consider ALL the possible moves, as most of them are ridiculous, e.g. how many moves to move & lose the queen!!! While humans focus on the only moves that make sense, Stockfish prunes the tree of possible moves to the lines with highest ROI.
@karpathy "Vegitative Electron Microscopy", a phrase that became popular by LLMs. @skdh had a video featuring this ex, tracking it to a real paper where this expression can be read across 2 columns! Tells u how much preprocessing was done for training.
@ericweinstein@PiersUncensored@piersmorgan 1st of all, why Sean? Like, he is a physicist, sure, low bar imho. Now, if I'm gonna play the devil 's advocate, maybe he read another paper/earlier draft? Only excuse.
Here's a suggestion/stupid question, what would Ed Witten say?
@demishassabis No mathematicians around here? Read about the classification proof of finite simple groups, or Fermat's last theorem, or the Langlands program, immense amounts of work that took generations of dedicated mathematicians' blood sweat & tears.
@lexfridman Unfortunately, that makes u complicit in any plans they have for us. Also, you telling us they figured out space travel, probably immortal for all intents & purposes, and they let human children die of hunger & suffering? How would you square that moral dilemma?
@ericweinstein Really @ericweinstein! Maybe you're not cynical enough, lol. It's in Grifting 101 class, the support-Israel phase was just a form of haggling w the Arabs to squeeze a better "deal", wink wink.
@Plinz So, last 500-year worth of developments in Math & Physics is a hallucination? If the "non-thinking" behind Math or Physics is auto-regressive, where's the new, llm-discovered, Physics? Or why Riemann hyp still an open problem? P==NP?
@M_David_Osborne @NateSilver538 It's not a "single" decision. In fact, I don't recall a single decision he made that didn't screw up a bunch of things. I'm all for ppl changing/learning and all, but he doesn't have to hold the most important job in the universe while he figures it out!
