So excited to share our work on using the LLMs for testing new theories. Huge thanks to @abhishekn for this wonderful opportunity and also to my coauthors @MTranchero and Cecil for their excellent efforts.
A special shoutout to @ExpectedParrot for making this experiment feasible.
🚨New research alert! 🚨
Tired of expensive, time-consuming experiments? 😴 We propose a new way to test and extend social science theories with an LLM-based framework: Generative AI-Based Experimentation (GABE) 🤖

The more I read the more I marvel at the competitive nature of @demishassabis
> "Anyway," he continued, flashing a grin of rueful self-awareness, "the slightly warped way I took that was, how do you know you've done your best?
> "The only way I could know is basically if I pushed myself to the point just before death. Because that is literally when you have done your best. If you die—by die, I mean burn out or something-then you've slightly overdone it.
> "It's like running a marathon. You have to basically fall over the line. And then ideally you should be hospitalized, but not dead. That's when you can say you've done your best. But if you've got any energy left, you're still standing, maybe you could have tried harder?
> "That's how I took it. I must have been about nine or ten."

> In 2009, around the time he met Hassabis, Hinton received another boost: the opportunity to turbocharge these networks with special chips-"graphics processing units" originally designed to render video game images. But even though Hinton was riding high, he found to his astonishment that Hassabis was as cocky as he was. "Demis is the only person I've ever met who's more competitive than me, Hinton recalled of that encounter.
New research reveals alarming patterns in AI hiring tools.
A large-scale study of 4 million job applications found that 26% of Black applicants and 15% of Asian applicants faced algorithmic discrimination.
When one AI vendor screens for multiple employers, qualified candidates can be systematically rejected everywhere they apply.
As 90% of U.S. employers now use AI screening, understanding these tools' impact on the workforce becomes more urgent.

AI is changing how employers hire workers.
Today we are publishing our research over the past four years into this high-stakes application of AI.
We independently studied the impacts of deployed AI hiring tools based on the real outcomes for 3.3 million people.
Excited to have a new op-ed out in @FortuneMagazine with @martin_casado from @a16z
Our core thesis: building/growing companies looks completely different when startup growth does not necessarily require growing headcount-- instead expanding compute + a smaller team to orchestrate can take a company to great heights much faster.

So, a nondescript TVK candidate used a doppelganger of Vijay during his campaign and ended up trouncing the sitting CM of Tamil Nadu ! Indian elections are wild...
Stockholm is remarkably walkable. At one point we were walking somewhere and we needed to check a map. It was such a relief not to have to think about the phone being stolen. In London we always duck into a doorway before checking a phone on the street.
This is the first project I’ve worked on since joining @esindurmusnlp’s team on Societal Impacts!
This area is super important and I hope others will work on it too!!
