Feeling grateful to have heard @carrie_kollias speak tonight at @anzsurgsocs event. Reminded how valuable it is to see female role models within orthopaedics!
Another weekend, another excellent online surgical event by @anzsurgsocs! So great to have access to speakers as accomplished as @drruthmitchell, @DrNadz and Prof Fiona Wood from the comfort of home.
Really interesting to partake in @surgconference research breakouts, and hear the project ideas of other students around Australia and NZ. A nice virtual substitute for being able to meet and engage with peers in real life! #assc2020
Yes - because they are often inaccurate. Female students are turned away from Orthopaedics by non-Orthopaedic doctors telling them “It’s a boy’s club” “Don’t you want a family?” “Are you strong enough?” The “hidden curriculum!” Orthopaedics is a great career for anyone.
“The biggest goal should be to increase the diversity,... see who is left behind, and lift them up.” Inspiring words from Dr Atkinson on the ‘Surgeons of Tomorrow’ panel on how we can work together to achieve change in Surgery. #ASSALeadershipDay2019@AOA_ortho@RACSurgeons
Amazing to attend the @AOA_ortho#AOAOWL event today and hear from a range of surgeons about the support and opportunities that exist for females in orthopaedics. Great to learn some practical skills too!
The #AOAOWL workshop has commenced. Dr Vrancic: “We are unicorns. Many of our emerging docs have never even met a female surgeon and that’s about to change. The role of the OWL Committee is to promote orthopaedics to all and events like today help make female mentors available.”
Did you know that 46% of current Australasian Surgical Society Presidents are female? We are proud to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay in the theme of #BetterForBalance. Today we would like to acknowledge all of the incredible women who support us and add value to our lives ❤️
Incredible to hear the keynote address from the very accomplished @drnikkistamp at the 40 Years of Medicine lecture series! An inspiring and engaging discussion of gender equity in surgery and medicine.
