@AJNoiter@CTprogressive_@igorbobic@RyanOnTheLeft While I don’t think the comment is dispositive of whether or not she was joking, the fact that she worked on Haley’s campaign means it wouldn’t be out of character
@petespiliakos@jbarro@EsotericCD Isn’t the problem for #2 that Maine was a Harris +7 state, not a swing state like AZ, NV, GA or PA? The closest analogue it probably the Aiken Senate campaign in 2012
@arpitrage@asymmetricinfo@florianederer They’re not really comparable because sporting event tickets are easily transferable, while airline tickets are non-transferable. So purchase behavior is going to be completely different
@ikirigin@johnarnold Sake does the same thing as wine. I grabbed this from 4 random sakes on BevMo and the descriptions are basically what you’d see on a bottle of wine
@Nico_aliaga@jonwaldman@darrenrovell You can’t compare different era ticket pricing though. Courtside tickets in MSG for the 1999 Finals were only $2,700 ($5,400 inflation adjusted). Which is less than the get in price today
@ReubenR80027912 The problem is tech leaders were somewhat quietly pro-D (partly out of local necessity since they're based in blue states) and Rs are dispositionally anti-regulation, so the needle was easy to thread. In 2024, they were ostentatiously pro-Trump, which put a target on their backs
@bdquinn@trumwill@AirwolfBonds Has anyone done an analysis on how many additional ballots get cured with the 3 week wait? Could they shorten the ballot curing period to 2 weeks without any impact?
@_MichaelBooth_@conorsen And for CA it has the added bonus of firing a shot across the bow to warn the IOC not to play any games with ticketing during 2028 Olympics
@_MichaelBooth_@conorsen FIFA is in the worst possible situation. There’s no domestic constituency that will be mad at local politicians for hammering them. Even soccer fans hate FIFA. Running them through the wringer is all upside and no downside. Who is going to cape for FIFA? Trump?
@dilanesper A big part of this is that we teach about slavery to middle & high school students. Talking about the sheer depravity of what slavery was (systemic rape & torture) would freak parents out
Similarly we sanitize the Holocaust in school by mostly just talking about the gas chambers
@BenHorney@MattWelch What does this have to do with prediction markets. They could do the same thing at an Atlantic City or Mohegan Sportsbook. All this shows is that prediction markets are indistinguishable from gambling
As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made to our great Nation, let us also stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people who live in dozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals....
