This isn't an isolated case. So many men have reached out to us with exactly the same complaint - extreme interference by wife, her family, total control over how the husband and his family should be, immediate arrival & nasty fights over smallest of arguments, threats of false cases and violence if their demands are not met.

So many husbands have been beaten like this along with their parents by wife and her family

I have myself shared such videos here. Sadly, police doesn't even register an FIR from husband's side if one or two bones are not broken.

Countless families of men are living in absolute fear because of constant threats and demands by wife and her family but raising a voice means further victimization of such men by false cases and rounds of courts.

Indian laws believe violence can be perpetrated only from one side in a marriage - husband's side. They totally ignore women can be abusive, control freak and violent too and have family members who can make life of a man hell.

Unfortunately no matter how many such murders, our lawmakers are sleeping

If a woman is allegedly thrown out of her matrimonial home, she should start earning—just like a son who gets thrown out by his father when he refuses to follow the rules of the house.

And if alimony can be justified with endless ifs and buts, then by the same logic, why not call dowry “reasonable” too, provided someone else carries the burden?

You cannot demand consistency only when it benefits you.

Article 14 guarantees equality before law. Article 21 protects life and personal liberty.

If 498A is available when a wife alleges cruelty by her husband and his family, why shouldn’t a mother-in-law have an equivalent legal remedy when she faces cruelty, harassment or abuse from her daughter-in-law?

The real victims can include husbands’ mothers too.

Gender-neutral laws. Equal protection. Equal justice.
