@AllThingsIng I'm aware of that quote. It is striking for sure. An argument can be made that given the preceding context, the pope is referring to it as a religious practice. As Pius XII later seemed to suggest that is not necessarily out of bounds if a medical decision.

His case is very strong and makes sense. However, there is just one thing I can't grasp. If the decision of parents to circumcise their sons is unethical because it violates justice and respect for persons, how can it be that God commanded it under the old covenant?
