Patch, Pack Up, and Leave: PMC's Half-Hearted Pothole Repairs Exposed

A drive along Nagar Road by the Pune Mirror team revealed yet another example of Pune Municipal Corporation's shoddy road repair work.

Contractors were seen hurriedly patching potholes and craters with tar in what appeared to be a superficial attempt at repairs.

However, before the team could engage with the workers about the quality of the work, the contractors abruptly packed up their equipment, climbed into their truck, and left the site without completing the repairs.

They abandoned numerous waterlogged potholes and craters, leaving the road as hazardous as before.

The unfinished work continues to pose a serious risk to commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders and auto-rickshaw drivers, who are most vulnerable to accidents on the rain-soaked, crater-ridden stretch.

The Pune Times Mirror team hit the ground to assess the traffic situation along Gen. Bewoor Road and opposite the Turf Club, only to witness a city struggling to stay on the move.

Vehicles crawled bumper-to-bumper as traffic inched ahead at a snail's pace. The congestion was compounded by commuters openly flouting traffic rules—jumping lanes, blocking intersections, and ignoring basic road discipline—turning an already chaotic situation into a daily ordeal.
The observations reflect a larger urban crisis.

Pune's roads are under immense pressure, with rush-hour congestion hovering at nearly 71%. The average commuter now spends more than 150 hours every year stuck in peak-hour traffic.
