Through our confederation with the other two faculty unions at @McGillU, we get the best of both worlds: harmonization where useful and local negotiations to preserve each faculty's priorities.
It must be exhausting for @mcgillu admin and their attorneys to keep up with all of their legal challenges. All academics need to learn when they've taken on too much and need to let some things go. Let go, @McGillPresident@ProvostManfredi@F_Labeau
Why is the pro-Israel lobby so fearful of campus demonstrations in Canada? Let’s be clear: I support the voice of these young people as a catalyst for the change that is inevitably coming as a result of Israel’s crimes in Gaza AND I equally support punishment for anyone who breaks the law. The nonsense of @AHousefather and @Bnaibrith instantly claiming antisemitism and calling for the dismantlement of these protests is ridiculous and un-Canadian. To all students at campuses across Canada: I will support the legal fees of any student protester who is unjustly arrested or abused. Our leadership across Canada needs to understand that Canadians will not stand idly by as the crimes in Gaza continue by the current criminal regime in Israel. #cdnpoli

@agsem_aeedem Shame on @mcgillu! Our student grades, tutors and course assistants make the university run. They have our full support in ensuring that everyone who needs protection is protected! #unionstrong
McGill is doing its best to defer our hearing for the certification of graders, tutors, and undergraduate course assistants deposited April 30. That very same big union-busting lawyer (paid $600/hr) did not respond to the tribunal for a month...
Also worth noting that the Association of McGill Professors of the Faculty of Arts (AMPFA) filed for certification on April 5. McGill has deferred our first hearing in front of the labour tribunal until August 27.
MUNACA condemns the SPVM's brutality against protestors occupying the James Admin building on June 6th. We call for an independent investigation into the SPVM's actions and for @mcgillu to join us in denouncing their excessive use of force.
Fabrice Labeau says that only "executives choose executives" at @mcgillu. These executives have a pattern of repeated failures in negotiating with everyone: government, students, Indigenous Peoples, and unions. Perhaps someone else should choose executives.
"McGill’s offer ... is comparable to that made by other universities who have reached resolutions," says @McGillPresident again about encampment.
It is not comparable, as a review of Brown, Northwestern, and UQAM agreements clearly shows. @mcgillu propaganda fuels the conflict.
Drum roll... We have a winner in the great @mcgillu Best Union Organizer of the Year award! @ProvostManfredi eked out a narrow win over @McGillPresident for top place, with Fabrice Labeau winning best team player & Francis Desjardins as most improved! Congratulations all!
Today, Academic Workers of @UAW_4811 launch a momentous Stand Up Strike in response to egregious Unfair Labor Practices committed by the University of California in the course of their denial of historic free speech rights and brutal attack on peaceful, pro-Palestinian protests.
.@AMPL_AMPD has been on the picket lines for 5 weeks and #McGillU is still refusing to bargain. Help us flood the McGill phone lines on May 23 to demand they return to the table and make sure they can’t ignore AMPL.

Merci @FQPPU pour votre soutien indéfectible ! Le combat antisyndical que mène l'@uMcGill menace la tenue du plus grand rassemblement d'universitaires au Canada https://t.co/aUuUuKFycv
Frances Fox Piven making the same point she has made for decades that unfortunately has to be repeated over and over again about why protest movements go after the targets nearest them: "You can only take collective action where the collectivity is." https://t.co/UyfVbFwqhP
In court today, the SPVM spoke against McGill’s request for an injunction against the Gaza solidarity encampment, arguing police discretion is essential and they aren’t the private security force of the university.
You know how hard it is to make the SPVM look reasonable?
Thank you @FQPPU for your unwavering support: @mcgillu's anti-union stance puts Canada's biggest academic conference in jeopardy https://t.co/VBzx4Mcczg
And: Beyond @mcgillu's obstruction against @AMPL_AMPD, it is fruitlessly challenging in court the newer Education and Arts associations. Thus, @mcgillu is at war with ALL of its profs in the social sciences and humanities. The @federation_hss needs to see this and reconsider.
I wonder if @mcgillu admin have considered whether their relentless, fruitless, losing legal cases--"punching down" on their own students and faculty--will harm them as they try "punch up" in their noble fight against the CAQ. Seems short sighted.
We will be in court tomorrow opposing @mcgillu's overreach in seeking to ban all protests on all subjects that it does not approve, including what it considers to be a peaceful protest. McGill is pitting itself against constitutional rights of free expression & assembly.
