We had a look at the newest ~snake oil~ (pardon my French, can't help the vitriol) map of a supposedly global, thrilling, AI driven nanometer tree height map by
@Meta and @WorldResources.
This is what we found, a short thread:

@arjenvrielink Nah, just more headline-grabbing noise from those who disagree with the concept of offsetting. There are plenty of recognized issues with REDD+ offsets and they're certainly not all of the highest quality, but 94% aren't garbage. I like the measured response from @SylveraCarbon
One of the biggest ideas I’ve heard at #COP15 is a voluntary internal #EarthTax that would be levied by companies on themselves. An average 1% allocation would generate $800B/yr, enough to cover all conservation and restoration efforts globally in perpetuity.
Great to see a packed room at #cop15 full of corporate & farmer association leaders talking about integrating #agriculture with the new global #biodiversity framework. And my fav project - the Cocoa & Forests Initiative - already got a shout out by AFD as #naturepositive
@arjenvrielink@BenjiSJones We all need to help companies & govts do NbS the right way & evaluate claims based on #NatureBasedSolutions but NbS is a big tent term on purpose b/c all stakeholders need to see themselves in the solution. Luckily there are lots of smart people that can call BS when it's needed.
An “OPEC for rainforests” is an idea I can get behind - giving rainforest countries more negotiating power. Maybe then countries like Norway will pay more than $1B in arbitrary and politically decided payments (Their 2023 projected oil revenue is $132B).
