@johnarnold Really admire your work. Just curious, do you publish a list of candidates anywhere? I’d love to be able to support them, including at the primary stage.
Here's a novel concept for some people:
We shouldn't shrink the population to fit the number of houses. We should build enough houses to fit the population.
Think about it. I know you'll get it eventually. https://t.co/nM6imbp4w7
I’m always reading that ideas like “it would be a good idea to donate money to malaria charities” are so trivial as to hardly count as a meaningful contribution to the world.
And it’s great that everyone agrees!
Yet somehow these malaria charities have unmet funding needs.
Potentially the most consequential weather forecast in modern European history?
Europe should brace for a very cold winter with little wind or rain, meteorologists tell @alicemhancock, in a grim warning for the continent’s energy crisis

Just insane. Whether it happens or not, it's clear that the era of cheap, abundant global energy is over. Will be interesting to see how energy policy and social safety nets develop under a stagflationary recession.
@gainzxbt there's a selection effect here and i find this pretty irresponsible. yes, the people who end up richest will always be the people who took degenerate risks, but that doesn't mean that's the best or smartest way for YOU individually to live life.
Don't take investment advice (especially crypto investment advice) from Twitter - it's full of people who claim to be 100% invested in crypto and then tell you that they are buying the dip. They're creating a brand and aren't obligated to tell you the full story.
The "buy the dip" attitude for investing in crypto, stocks, etc is nonsense. That sort of reasoning comes from the assumption that the actual value of things stays constant and it's only the price changing - in reality, the world can change and the value of things can change.
we spent many trillions on the covid response (and suffered huge economic and social damage).
the failure to now spend tens of billions preventing the next pandemic is so depressing.
The main ways government reduces inflation are by taking money out of the economy, by (1) raising interest rates, (2) cutting spending/QE, and (3) raising taxes. Think raising personal taxes is more effective than corp tax, but I don't get the hand-wringing in the responses.
Biden on TV pushing price caps yet again, an economic policy that has created shortages literally every time it has been tried.
He’s too old not to know this, he’s lived it time and again.
@LandonTice so much of poker “etiquette” is around convincing fish to come back and lose, e.g., continuing to play even when a fish leaves even if the pros don’t really want to, or making sure they never improve, e.g., not discussing strat
Finding peace is a tough choice - people on all sides, even the “right” side, have to offer something they don’t want to give up. But find peace we must - we MUST de-escalate this situation.
The advice of “just survive” from crypto OGs applies mainly to people who are already making good trades. If you are a negative EV trader (most are), you will continue losing money regardless of how you size your positions/trades. Stop trading, figure out a +EV strategy first.
