🇺🇸📍🇫🇯 @DHSgov Homeland Security Investigations Regional Attaché Ernest Verina participated in the inaugural Pacific Transnational Crime Summit outlined how American law enforcement agencies are working with Pacific Island country authorities to strengthen local capacity to detect and disrupt sophisticated criminal operations.
“The United States sees the Pacific Islands as partners in the global fight against transnational crime," he said.
Through intelligence sharing, joint investigations, and technical assistance (supported by @StateINL), law enforcement cooperation between the United States and Pacific partners has already contributed to some of the largest drug seizures in Pacific history. These partnerships and successes align with President Trump's National Drug Control Strategy, which treats the fentanyl crisis and transnational drug trafficking as core national security priorities.
Together, we are strengthening law enforcement partnerships and disrupting criminal networks at their source!
Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Krissy Barrett said while most of these drugs are still trafficked to Australia, we are now seeing instances of organised crime sending illicit commodities directly to the Pacific to find another market.
