McKinsey published a piece this week on "The Agentic Organization." They claim most companies are stuck in pilot mode because the work itself hasn't changed.
What "pilot mode" looks like at a 75-person consulting firm I've seen inside:
- One analyst running Claude for market research.
- A few associates using Gemini to draft deck sections.
- A partner who built a private GPT for proposal writing and didn't tell anyone.
All real. But none of them changes the firm's throughput, win rate, or margin. The pilots aren't failing because the tools are wrong. They're failing because nobody redesigned the workflow around them.
Going from pilot to production means picking one full workflow, rebuilding it agent-first, measuring it against the old one, then rolling it out across the firm. That's the step McKinsey's framing is pointing at.
Most firms skip it because it's harder than adding more tools.

The state of cybersecurity has been dismal forever. At one point a major vendor even enabled direct execution of arbitrary x86 binaries in any web page. Nobody cared. The number of hacks and breaches has been uncounted. Finally we have the catalyst and the tools to fix it all.
Enterprises are using AI today for coding, legal, support, healthcare, and more.

Software engineering changed more in the last 3 months than the preceeding 30 years.
Everything about running a software company needs to be rethought from first principles.
You’ve been asking to meet her. Here’s my beautiful wife Tina! Can she get a howdy? I went with the shirt. She’s been asking for one since my name’s on it. Lol! #HashtagTheCowboy Thanks, Tim

We just launched Schema Registry and Discovery for Amazon EventBridge. I’ll be talking about best practices for building event-driven architectures as well as demoing the new schema features in my session on Tue and Wed at #reinvent. Hope to see you there. https://t.co/c5rZJDTukS
Remember, @awscloud doesn't believe in multi-cloud. It does however believe in seven distinct venues for #reinvent, each offering largely the same thing but leaving you in the wrong place for the differentiated thing you want.
Machine Learning as a Service in Production on #Kubernetes with @openshift. Great customer case study by @TKatarki on how Israel MOD used Kubernetes to enable data scientists to collaborate on model development, access GPU compute, scale in production and see real results today.
I’m only a few chapters in, but loving @bhorowitz new book “What You Do Is Who You Are: How to Create Your Business Culture”. Definitely worth putting on your list...https://t.co/ERj87nZmey via @amazon
I have to say, I’m really blown away by the #DOD talk at #KubeCon! Really impressive to see the stacks they are using. “We don’t run huge clusters, we run many little clusters, weapon systems, business systems, etc... “ They are even running #kubernetes & #istio on jets!
