This government was elected with a mandate to take immediate action to boost Britain's energy independence.
The onshore wind ban is a symbol of how bad decisions in the last fourteen years have put up energy bills for families.
Today, it ends.

The relatively low income tax paid by an average earner in the UK, and the fact that this has fallen in recent times, is very rarely heard in public discourse. Indeed I'm not sure I can ever recall a politician making it.
Almost every problem in Britain today, from sky-high energy bills and rents to sluggish growth and not enough money for public services, can be linked to a single cause: Britain has stopped building.
Britain Remade has a plan to change that. 🧵
In order for @OpenAI and other AI companies to be held accountable to their own commitments on safety, security, governance and ethics, the public must have confidence that employees will not be retaliated against for speaking out. (Thread)
The correct take. At a minimum an investigation is warranted. But the brutality of the attacks and starvation is truly unusual. Humanitarian colleagues working in Gaza repeatedly say this is the worst they’ve seen in their careers. These are weathered and experienced workers who have seen hell, from Sudan to Afghanistan. What the current Israeli government is doing is extreme for any regime, let alone a democracy. Shame on them, shame on the nation, and by all means investigate both Hamas and the Netanyahu coalition. The rule of law does not require equivalence. Violations are violations.

Even Israel's closest political allies are calling for fighting to stop.
Innocent people in Gaza are facing starvation. Israeli hostages have now been in captivity for 150 days. This is a dystopian nightmare and the war has to end immediately.
I really think it's extremely important not to succumb to hysteria. In Nazi Germany antisemitic hate was state policy. In 2024 Britain, the Prime Minister has just stood up at the @CST_UK dinner & pledged £18 million a year to fight antisemitism - and Labour has backed this step.
🧵Here's a thread about an obscure economic theory from a century and a half ago, which is about to become a MASSIVE deal.
⚡️It helps explains why tackling climate change is going to be v v hard. Some say impossible.
The story begins with this building👇

NEW: an ideological divide is emerging between young men and women in many countries around the world.
I think this one of the most important social trends unfolding today, and provides the answer to several puzzles.
'A 100% real-terms increase in the unaffordability of perhaps the single most important good in modern western society has generally been treated as a young person’s issue with politicians paying only lip service to solutions'

The Post Office's compensation scheme is designed to minimise payouts. One postmaster received £15.75.
That isn't a typo.
I count nine ways the Post Office's HSS compensation scheme is rigged:
Carter-Ruck is the UK's best known libel law firm. Here's how they recklessly acted for OneCoin - a massive cryptocurrency fraud. And how they tried to silence people who pointed out that OneCoin was a fraud.

I'm gonna talk about this a bit because it's SUCH a shame and, while it's very easy for everyone to agree on that, there are people who are newer to comedy who might not understand quite what has been lost, so I'm gonna rake over the death of risk at the Fringe.
