Live-clearing 2.0 is there! Work from @TakeshiImaiLab in @naturemethods.
2nd major live clearing work after (Qu et al. Science, 2024), with a stronger emphasis on isotonic, minimally invasive conditions & preservation of neuronal physiology. https://t.co/ZuSFVRrZQq. Congrats!
Using DISCO and related tissue clearing approaches combined with whole-brain light-sheet imaging and deep learning, a new Cell paper maps oligodendrocyte organization, oligodendrogenesis, and myelin injury across the entire mouse brain at unprecedented scale. This work demonstrates how intact 3D atlases reveal regional diversity and disease-specific white matter vulnerability that 2D sections simply cannot resolve.
Outstanding work by Dwight E. Bergles, at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Thanks @qifangfang139 for leading efforts! The first study from Wu lab on neutrophils, thanks to Fangfang’s expertise. A great team work with Drs Lennon & @LucchinettiMD to address microglial mechanisms of NMO in mouse models we started when the lab was at Mayo @MayoClinicNeuro.
With aging there is accumulation of neuronal proteins in microglia, which may be a driver of cognitive decline

Isn’t it ironic? Functional iron deficiency at the core of #ParkinsonsDisease pathobiology
This Viewpoint by Ian Peikon & Nancy C. Andrews @BostonChildrens@harvardmed calls for a rethink of iron’s position in PD pathology and treatment: https://t.co/BVZlwtxtZV
A 2023 Review in @ScienceTM looks at the complex connections between astrocytes and other types of cells in the nervous system, including neurons, oligodendrocytes, and microglia.
