The solutions that are proposed by current government are like putting band-aids on a hemorrhage. Throwing money at the issue not only does not fix it, but also leads to continued government deficits & debts, ultimately negatively affecting the Canadian cost of living. #PHARM4420
@keithbailey72#PHARM4420 in an ideal world, no one should pay for healthcare at any level. The issue is this isn’t a perfect world and finding that balance is very difficult. The biggest issue with our system is that the main solution they use is throw money and hope it fixes itself.
This is exactly the type of thinking we need: long-term planning! Preventative medications and therapies are vital for reducing future costs. #PHARM4420
It would be interesting to see how much the government could save if they paid for preventative medications such as , antihypertensives, contraception. This would reduce the burden on our healthcare system in the long run by preventing need for further treatment later #PHARM4420
Canadians should not have to make decisions about rationing their insulin or pick between buying their medications or paying rent this month. #PHARM4420 https://t.co/C1vKyrTYAn
Canada has an undeserved global reputation when it comes to healthcare. If patients must wait weeks or even months for an MRI and pay some of the highest drug prices in the world to afford necessary medications, how good is its healthcare system, really? #PHARM4420
Finding more funding or increasing taxes on Canadian citizens is not the solution - it is the reallocation of current resources! More than money, health care needs meaningful reform... think beyond short-term fixes. #PHARM4420
Despite being one of the highest spenders on healthcare amongst the 38 countries within the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), Canada's healthcare system performance is below the average of the OECD countries. #PHARM4420 https://t.co/rNtiuEsIUq
The line between medically essential and non-essential services can be blurry, it is not always clear where to draw the line. Healthcare reform should include redefining what constitutes "medically necessary" services, and what is covered by health insurance plans. #PHARM4420

Yes! Pharmacists would be able to free up visits for patients to see their GP for "more serious" conditions as the pharmacist's scope of practice continues to expand! #PHARM4420
"UTIs are the 8th most common cause for ambulatory care visits". Many provinces in Canada have expanded the scope of prescribing by pharmacists to include UTIs, including NS and ON. I hope to see UTIs on the minor ailments list in NL soon! #PHARM4420
More people are without family doctors in NL now than 2 years ago. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get healthcare in NL. Pharmacist led clinics such as those in AB or NS and will take pressure off our ER teams while benefiting patients #pharm4420 https://t.co/eBTdK3WOvB
@KaylaWatton Here is to hoping more additions are coming to this list soon! Expanding pharmacist scope of practice would allow pharmacist-led clinics to function at higher capacities. #PHARM4420
@Brooke16831 With more and more "clinical pharmacists" practicing to their full scope, I believe that public opinions regarding qualifications will slowly start to shift! #PHARM4420
The newly launched APPROACH program allows patients to test for various STIs. There are 11 locations across NL offering this service! Point of care testing is just another way pharmacist-led clinics can positively impact the healthcare system.

According to NLMA and NAPRA there are 629 GPs and 744 licensed pharmacists in the province. If these pharmacists were to practice to the extend of their clinical knowledge through pharmacist-led clinics, we would essentially be doubling public access to basic care. #PHARM4420
Over 130,000 patients do not have access to a general practitioner across NL. A collaborative team approach can alleviate the pressures on the Canadian healthcare system. One way we can do this is through pharmacist led clinics! #Pharm4420

"We did a rough calculation the other day: If we could have a social worker, a nurse practitioner, pharmacist and maybe a physiotherapist, we [family doctors at Muller's clinic] could probably each take on five to 10 more families in our practice"
