Once our current spending has been optimized to improve health outcomes more cost-effectively we can look into expanding coverage into essential services like pharmacare to allow all Canadians to have equal access to all the areas of medicine. #Pharm4420
Non-adherence to medications is already a problem for a vast majority of the patients we see. With affordability being factored in, it becomes worrisome what could happen to the health of our patients without universal coverage of medications. #PHARM4420
In Canada, the government healthcare plan covers prescription drugs in hospitals. However, when getting prescriptions from a pharmacy there is NOT universal coverage. Why does our Country cover medications in an acute setting but not in a preventative setting? #Pharm4420
but there’s clearly some aspects of the healthcare system are not covered including things such as dental bills, and some prescription medications. Maybe a reallocation of our healthcare funding needs to be completed in order to achieve the goal of assuring all aspects #PHARM4420
shown to not only improve patient outcomes, but also provide billions in government savings. This is why Canada should adopt a universal pharmacists system. https://t.co/qCeSSvcERi
#pharm4420 Medications are free for all patients when in the hospital in Canada which is a good start, but when patients can’t afford the same life saving medications after they get discharged they often end up back in the hospital. Free prescription drugs has been (1/2)
2/2: and prescribe for (and in some provinces order labs for) which not only enhances continuity of care, but also frees up time and resources for those who need more urgent care in ERs or physician offices #PHARM4420
1/2: While we experience a healthcare crisis here in NL with GP shortages, the pharmacist-led clinics we see in other provinces like NS and AB would help increase public access to primary care. As the scope of pharmacy broadens, there are more ailments pharmacists can assess
In Lethbridge, Loblaw’s pharmacist-led clinic is seeing up to 40 patients per day where pharmacists can assess patients, prescribe medications for minor illnesses and injuries, administer vaccines, support chronic disease management and order and receive lab results. #Pharm4420
As pharmacist led clinicians began to arise in Canada, they are seen to relieve a stress burden from the emergency care systems, increase access to care for patients, and reduce patient wait times. I hope to see this soon adopted here in NL #Pharm4420
More people are without family doctors in NL now than 2 years ago. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get healthcare in NL. Pharmacist led clinics such as those in AB or NS and will take pressure off our ER teams while benefiting patients #pharm4420 https://t.co/eBTdK3WOvB
